The Traitors viewers now think a contestant mocked for his apparent lack of ‘poker face’ could actually stand a chance at winning.

After seemingly being sent home during the first episode after voluntarily stepping off the train to the castle alongside Jack and Fozia, Alexander returned to the game after a recent challenge.

The 38-year-old from London is a former British diplomat and has worked on human rights and negotiations in conflict zones and used to lead fast-response teams to crises overseas.

Ahead of the series starting, he explained: ‘I’m hopeful I’ll be relatively calm in quite a pressurised environment.’

However, after the last episode ended on a cliffhanger during a card game called ‘Death match’, many couldn’t help but comment at his panicked expressions.

‘Alexander in the death match is the most unintentionally hilarious thing I’ve seen in ages,’ Paul posted on X.

‘Alexander looking like he’s really facing death,’ lorevalx shared.

‘Is Alexander alright? He looks TERRIFIED. This man was a diplomat,’ KP added.

Many others declared he had ‘the worst poker face’.

However, a few days on, some are now saying they think he could be a dark horse this season.

‘I thought Alexander played Deathmatch really well. Maybe it was editing, but it looked like he was clearly examining the other players’ faces closely and seemed to clock Leon’s reaction in the second round perfectly,’ user poppedpea posted on Reddit.

‘Even in the first round I got the impression he knew something happened between Fozia and Anna but got it the wrong way around because Fozia didn’t ask for the life card back. He appears to be genuinely good at reading people. I think he could be a very valuable faithful in the final rounds,’ they added.

‘Yes – everyone was joking about his rocking and wee teeth and squirrel like demeanour. I mean on one hand it was probably very cold. But two was it a bit of an intentional cover? It allowed him to really read people without them noticing,’ healthy-drink421 added.

During the card game, both Anna and Alexander were saved from being eliminated from the game after successfully selecting and keeping a ‘life’ card.

However, viewers will have to wait until tomorrow night to see if it’s Fozia or Leon who is sent home.

The Traitors continues tomorrow at 9pm on BBC One.
