Netflix adds 'one of the most brutal movies ever' that's combo of John Wick and Tarantino

Netflix has boosted its selection with a ‘thrilling and brutal action film’ that viewers describe as a blend of Quentin Tarantino’s distinctive style with a unique twist.

The streaming service has bulked up its extensive roster with the Finnish feature Sisu, a 2023 release set amidst the final days of the Second World War.

Its story charts the harrowing journey of an isolated gold prospector who encounters a band of retreating Nazis in the desolate reaches of northern Finland.

A conflict is quickly sparked over his valuable find that paints him as anything but the average miner.

With rave reviews at its initial limited cinema screening, Sisu garnered an impressive 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Netflix subscribers now have the chance to immerse themselves in the acclaimed film, conveniently following reports indicating that shooting for its eagerly anticipated sequel commenced last year, reports Surrey Live.

Critics have made a particular note of the film’s unflinching violence, drawing parallels to works by the renowned director Tarantino. A critic observed: “This is what would happen if Quentin Tarantino had ever directed a Clint Eastwood western.”

Another added: “Sisu knows what it is and doesn’t try to pretend to be anything else: an adrenaline-packed, violent action film served up with plenty of self-aware campiness. Jorma Tommila’s portrayal of Aatami Korpi, the hero who fights Nazis, is a crowd-pleasing blitz.”

The film has been lauded by fans, with many drawing comparisons to the John Wick franchise. This isn’t surprising given that the initial trailer highlighted its release from the same studio and was shown ahead of John Wick 4.

One viewer who had already seen the film encouraged others to watch it on Netflix, stating: “In the same vein as Taken, Nobody and the John Wick franchise, Sisu is another addition to the ‘Old man with a certain set of skills’ genre. Except this time it’s set at the end of WWII and the bad guys are Nazis. As expected from this kind of film, the plot is simple and the action is gloriously brutal.”

Another chimed in: “One of the most brutal movies ever. A theatrical experience which I have missed. A short film with memorable story and plot which is like the biggest compliment for most of the action movies and the slow pacing, direction, limited dialogues with more focused on violence and gore make this movie great.”

While one person summarised: “A thrilling and brutal action film that pays homage to classic Westerns and war movies. The film is beautifully shot and features some of the most impressive action sequences I’ve seen in a long time.

“Tommila gives a standout performance as the lead character, and the supporting cast is also excellent. Sisu is a must-see for fans of action movies, war movies, and Westerns. It’s a well-made, exciting film that will leave you breathless.”

Sisu is streaming on Netflix.
