Davina McCall issues update after brain tumour surgery
Davina McCall’s final words to her surgeon have been revealed.
The beloved television star underwent brain tumour surgery back in September 2024 and made sure to reassure her doctor ahead of the life changing procedure. Top neurosurgeon Kevin O’Neill handled her case and she took a moment to tell him one simple thing.
The 57 year old telly star confessed she nearly pleaded with him to “keep me alive” for her kids’ sake, but when it came down to the wire Davina kept her cool and instead entrusted him with a simple message: “You do whatever you need to do. I put all my faith in you.”
Now, feeling like she’s got the zest of someone half her age, Davina’s all set to host the BBC’s Stranded on Honeymoon Island.
“He doesn’t need me screaming at him to keep me alive. He needs to be in the calmest and most confident place. I wanted to empower Kevin to do the best job he could,” said Davina.
In an emotional post-op chat, she couldn’t help but well up while singing Dr O’Neill’s praises. Dr O’Neill described the high-stakes procedure as similar to bomb disposal, peeling back the scalp, boring into the skull, and using GPS tech with trackers dotted over Davina’s head like tiny decals, reports the Mirror.
Aware of the high stakes, the telly host sorted out her will and penned heartfelt letters for her grown-up kids Holly, Tilly, and Chester. Opening up about her fears, Davina McCall revealed: “I set up my whole life before I went into the operating theatre knowing that, if I didn’t make it, the kids would be OK.”
“I needed to go under the anaesthetic knowing I had my ducks in a row. It was my way of letting go. I am so grateful for that process, because I realised through all of it that, if I were not around, my children would be on the right path.”
Chuffed about her new friendship with the medical professional, the ex-Big Brother presenter told The Times: “We’re going to be friends for the rest of our lives,” before telling the publication that they are “going out to dinner with their partners”.
