This has not been a good week for those that would prefer to see physical media remain the primary way of playing video games.

First there was Google’s Stadia and all the attendant streaming rumours, and now there’s been fresh leaks concerning Microsoft’s disc-less version of the Xbox One S.

It’s been rumoured for months now, but Microsoft has never officially confirmed anything – despite the console allegedly being due for launch this May.

But now website Windows Central claims to have more info, including a name: Xbox One S All-Digital Edition.

The question now is how much will it cost? (pic: Windows Central)

Okay, so that’s not very exciting but they’ve also seen the box and while they can’t use an actual image of it – as it would expose their source – they have mocked up the image above of what they saw.

As you can see, the console looks exactly like a standard Xbox One S but with no disc slot and giant warning signs that you need an Internet connection to use it.

According to the site the exact release date, in America at least, is 7 May. But there’s still no real clue as to a price, other than it will be the cheapest Xbox One ever.

The console reportedly comes with copies of Minecraft, Sea Of Thieves, and Forza Horizon 3 (not 4) installed. Perhaps surprisingly though there’s no sign of a free Game Pass subscription, although things like that can be subject to change.

A new Inside Xbox livestream next month is expected to be the venue for the console’s official annoucement, but until then this is all technically just a rumour.
