Woman sparks debate over reusing bathwater and the rules she sticks to – but others brand her idea totally gross

A MUM has sparked a fierce debate after revealing she reuses bathwater if her kids haven’t weed in it.

The debate took place on the social media platform Mumsnet after one person claimed to know a parent whose family ”reuse the same bath water each night”.

According to the post, the tots would have the bath first, before the mum-of-two would heat it up for her.

The last person to bathe would be the father, as he is “the dirtiest”.

Although the family-of-four did this in bid to save money, the woman quickly dubbed the practice as “the most gross thing ever” and asked fellow parents on the platform if they reused their bath water too.

The response online was mixed – and some people were shocked the author found reusing bathwater so strange.

A mum posting under the username @Iminaglasscaseofemotion said that she and her family always have a bath together.

“I’ll go in after the kids, or they go in after me.

“Personally don’t see anything wrong with it but I’m sure most people or mums will come on to say it’s disgusting,” she added.

A few others also jumped in to say that this was very common practice in the past.

Mumsnet fan @DramaAlpaca wrote she didn’t consider it gross back when she was growing up in the 70s.

Meanwhile, reusing bathwater proved to be too much for others parents, who reckoned ”it does sound a bit grim”.

Another member of the platform, @nestisflown, said that she rather not bathe “than bathe in the same water as my kids and husband”.

In her eyes, bathing at the same wouldn’t be an issue – but bathing afterwards and reheating the water “just makes it seem so much worse”.

According to gurus at BabyGaga, sharing bathwater is totally safe and “there are no restrictions about babies sharing bath time with their older brothers and sisters, as a matter of fact, this is a great and fun time for the siblings to bond”.

Bathwater, it turns out, is not the only thing people reuse to slash the expenses – many share sanitary towels too.

I haven’t bought any in over a year,” one commented.

Another person listed her most reused items at home, which included straws, sandwich wrappers, menstrual cups, washable nappies and face cloths.

Mumsnet fanatic @ThighsRelief advised on saving any food wrappers, like the ones inside cereal boxes, to reuse as sandwich bags later.

Chloe, another member of the forum, revealed that she reuses her tampons and reckoned cloth tampons are “total life savers”.

She said: “When I found out about cloth, reusable tampons I was intrigued, although to be honest I did also think they sounded a bit gross.

“You can use them until they fall apart so for at least a year or more. They sort of fold in on themselves like a rolled up sock.

“Afterwards you just put them in a bag and chuck them in a washing machine – I know it sounds grotty, but it really isn’t. It works out cheaper, and they stay nice – you wash them cold so they don’t stain.”
