A woman was left shocked to her core after she stumbled upon a secret room hidden behind her bathroom mirror, following an investigation into a mysterious draft in her apartment.
Taking to social media to share her eerie experience, she recounted how she felt persistent gusts of cold air emanating from her bathroom, prompting her to hunt down the source.
She recounted: “I’m in my New York City apartment and it’s cold. It doesn’t matter how high the heat goes, I’m cold. I walk into my bathroom and I feel cold air blowing on me. There’s not a vent or anything so I feel here [the doorway], and there’s cold air coming through this hole – so I tape it up.”
Despite her efforts to seal the gap, the strange drafts persisted, leading her to further inspect the room which is when she found that the draft was coming from behind her bathroom mirror. In a follow-up video, she is seen prying the mirror off the wall, unveiling a gaping hole.
In the footage, she tells her friends: “There’s a room back there.”
One friend, taken aback, asks: “What if someone’s living in there right now?” Driven by curiosity, she decided to clamber through the wall opening to uncover what lay beyond. After wriggling through the tight space, she began to explore the concealed area only to discover it was an entirely separate apartment.
While the flat appeared largely vacant, she observed a scattering of empty boxes and bin bags. She remarked: “It’s freezing in here. Wow, this is a whole other apartment.”
After securing the front door, she anticipated an ‘interesting’ conversation with her landlord the following morning.
Viewers of her video were quick to comment, with one saying: “i would have just secured that space and had a double apartment for free. If you can confirm its basically walled off and no one seems to know about it, score! ” Another chimed in: “Is that a one-way mirror? “.
A third added their own tale, saying: “I once knew a guy who bought an old office building. He soon realized there was a lot of space missing and eventually discovered a hidden 1920s speakeasy.”
And yet another was incredulous, exclaiming: “WTF! Is this for real? If so, I’d secretly take over the apartment. By the looks of it she more than doubled her living space. What’s the worst that could happen? “.
