'Wolf Man' Poster & Featurette Teases 4DX Screenings & Werewolf Design

Get ready to feel the fear in more ways than one with Blumhouse’s next Universal Monsters film. Director Leigh Whannell has been leading the revival of the classic horror icons with his films, the 2020 reimagination of The Invisible Man starring Elizabeth Moss, and his upcoming release, Wolf Man, starring Julia Garner and Christopher Abbott. Whannell has already proved that he can take spooky characters that audiences have largely become desensitized to and turn them into horror villains that haunt fans’ nightmares, but now the Australian director is taking it a step further with his new film, inspired by David Cronenberg’s famous body-horror flick The Fly.

As Whannell told Empire, he’s interested in showcasing “the tragedy of the human body falling apart” in his version of the classic scary story, and this time he’s pulling all the stops. Wolf Man is celebrating its upcoming multisensory screenings with a new, creepy poster, curtesy of a Bloody Disgusting exclusive, that promotes its multisensory, 4DX screenings in theaters starting January 17. Although it is not clear if all senses will be represented in the 4DX screenings, the new poster emphasizes the feel of the experience, so audience members can expect physical scares at the very least.

Tickets for the anticipated horror film are on sale now, with tickets for the 4DX screenings in select Regal theaters also available for purchase. Fandango is even promoting the film with an exclusive offer of $5 horror films on Fandango at Home with the purchase of a ticket to a Wolf Man screening. Films like The Wolfman, both the theatrical and unrated releases, The Invisible Man, and The Last Voyage of the Demeter are included in the promotion. Check out the new, eye-catching poster below.

‘Wolf Man’ Shows Off Its Unique Werewolf Design in New Featurette

Universal is adding to the hype of Wolf Man‘s release with a nearly two-minute-long featurette that dives into how Whannell and special effects makeup designer Arjen Tuiten takes audiences through the making of the practical effects for the body horror film. In the video, Whannell states that he was also inspired by John Carpenter’s The Thing so practical effects were on the forefront of his mind when creating his new werewolf design.

Wolf Man Director Blasts Halloween Horror Nights’ Use of the Film

Leigh Whannell sets the record straight and says the Halloween Horror Nights Wolf Man makeup isn’t what you will see in the movie.

While Whannell had already prepared for some Wolf Man fans to dislike his reinvention of the character, that did not hold him back from creating a new werewolf that apparently even scared the most hardened horror fans of the film’s crew. Since the effects were created practically, the featurette shows off the dozens of prosthetic makeup pieces and practical props like severed, bloodied arms.

With most of all the transformation being created practically, the cast and crew were immersed in the world of the disease taking hold of Abbott’s character. Whannell left the video with a message of hope for the audience to experience the frights that those who witnessed the wolf man in the flesh did. The 4DX screening should take the movie’s already impressive practical gore to the next level. Get your tickets now for the new, revitalization of the classic werewolf tale, in theaters on Jan. 17.
