ARE the piles of laundry in your home becoming overwhelming? Well, fear not.
One savvy mum has shared her simple trick to keep her whole family‘s laundry organised and it’s knocked hours off the time she spends folding, washing and drying.
Gemma Bray, who goes by The Organised Mum on social media, took to TikTok to share the savvy hack, which costs as little as £1.
“A few years ago I gave everyone single member of my family one of these,” she said, holding up a laundry net.
“I was sick of not being able to work out whose socks were whose,” she continued.
Since her kids all wear similar black socks for school things got pretty confusing when it came to sorting out clean laundry.
That’s why Gemma gave the laundry nets to each of her kids and gave them one simple task each – to put their own socks and underwear in the nets, then in the laundry basket ready to be washed.
“I know for some of you even getting it, getting your family to do that is a challenge,” Gemma admitted.
But once your brood is in the habit of doing it, the simple nets are the perfect laundry tool, the mum said.
All you need to do is pop the individual nets in the washing machine, then transfer them to your tumble dryer – just makes sure not to overfill the nets so everything gets a good clean.
“Then when they’re dry you give them back and they can pair their own socks, you don’t lose any socks and you save hours with the laundry,” Gemma explained.
You can buy laundry nets in all different sizes, starting as little as £1 from Ikea.
They’re also available, in multipacks from Sainsbury’s for £3, or you can nab a bunch from Amazon for just £3.99.
You can label the nets with the children’s names to keep track of them, or Gemma suggested buying everyone a different coloured net to make it even easier.
After sharing the simple mum hack on social media other parents chimed in to share how they’ve made the dreaded laundry a bit easier to keep on top of.
One said: “I have trained my children from very young to pair their socks before putting them in the dirty laundry and then I use sock clips whilst sorting out the wash loads before putting in the washing machine.”
A second commented: “We just buy socks from primary they have the sizes inside so I know who’s socks they are and dad has branded so problem solved.”
Gemma also shared a few extra tips that help her family-of-five stay on top of piles of laundry.
One of her tricks is to set aside a small amount of time every day to laundry, and make sure whatever you’ve washed or dried always gets put away before you go to bed.
Cleaning hacks and tips

Here are some tips to help you clean your home like a pro:
It’s all about doing what’s realistic for you, she told fellow parents.
And if you’ve got teenagers with messy rooms, make sure they’re not putting clean cloths in the laundry basket rather than hanging them up or putting them away properly.
“Guard the laundry basked with your life,” she said.
“I counted 5 pairs of my daughter’s tights in the wash yesterday. There should’ve been a maximum of 2.
“Probably just scooped off the floordrobe and put back in the wash,” one mum commented on the video in agreement.
And someone else shared her trick: “My top tip that makes my life easier is to hand dry all tops (with no hood) on hangers. Time saver.”
