SIX The Musical, the smash-hit that has taken the West End by storm, is now heading to cinemas.
The show, which dazzles audiences with a modern spin on historical grandeur, will hit the silver screen next week.
Since its debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2017, the sensational production has clinched two Tony Awards and captured hearts with its empowering narrative.
Conceived by the brilliant minds of Lucy Moss and Toby Marlow, SIX reimagines King Henry VIII’s six wives as a dynamic girl band.
Each queen – Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Katherine Howard, and Catherine Parr – seizes the spotlight to share her unique tale through infectious song.
SIX delves into the rich tapestries of these women’s existences, casting aside their collective label as merely the ex-wives of the notorious king.
The synopsis tantalisingly reveals: “The electrifying show follows the long misunderstood wives of Henry VIII as they strut out of the shadow of their infamous husband to reclaim their narrative and finally tell their stories in their own words – with plenty of royally good fun along the way,” reports the Mirror.
Mark your calendars, the premiere of SIX The Musical Live! is slated for release in UK and Ireland cinemas on Sunday, April 6.
While this theatrical phenomenon has toured internationally, the film version boasts the original West End cast delivering stellar performances, captured live at London’s Vaudeville Theatre.
The cast features Jarnéia Richard-Noel as Catherine of Aragon, Millie O’Connell as Anne Boleyn, Natalie Paris as Jane Seymour, Alexia McIntosh as Anne of Cleves, Aimie Atkinson as Katherine Howard, and Maiya Quansah-Breed as Catherine Parr.
Audiences have praised the musical for years, with The Telegraph giving it a glowing five-star review in 2023, stating: “Six: Henry VIII’s fabulous queens will rule the West End for years to come.”
Theatre-goers also can’t get enough of the production. A fan exclaimed on Google: “Six the Musical is outstanding!! I like musicals but I’m not big on history or Henry VIII but just WOW!!”
Another enthused: “I absolutely loved this show – not your usual show by any means- no set changes or interval just RAW talent telling a version of events in such a unique way that is both informative and funny.”
One more admirer commented: “SIX the musical is, in my opinion, the best musical. It combines history, feminism, and pop music. The costumes and the cast are wonderful.”
They added: “My favourite queen is Katherine Howard, but they are all amazing! The songs will be stuck in your head forever!”
