What Video Games Have The Most Weapon Choices? – CBR – Comic Book Resources

[ad_1]

Games today thrive on variety, and with so much competition in the market, developers need to prove their games are different from the thousands of others out there and thus worth a player purchasing. There are many ways to accomplish this, from art direction to mechanics to genre, but one way to make a game stand out is through its weapons.

Some games flood their games with weapons, all the while making each one still feel unique and useful. Whether there’s a gun for every possible situation or a small number of highly versatile weapons, these games stand out for their weapon count.

10 Metro Exodus (19)

Metro Exodus Gun in front of railroad

Metro Exodus follows in the spirit of the books it is based on, and guns are not as important to it as world-building is. The game features only 19 weapons, only 13 of which are guns, but all of them can be highly customized. Players could carry two or three of the same gun but modify them so differently that they have a close-range pistol, mid-range rifle, and long-range sniper — all from the same base weapon.

This means that despite having such a low number of weapons, Metro Exodus feels like it has a much larger arsenal. Both the player and the enemies they face have far more options than it might seem from such a small inventory.

9 Halo 5: Guardians (100)

Halo 5: Guardians may not have been the best-received entry in the series, but one thing it does have is lots of weapons. In addition to all the weapons in the base game, the highly controversial REQ System gave players access to dozens of weapon variants.

From a straight-up copy of the incredibly powerful Halo: Combat Evolved pistol to UNSC weapons modified to fire Promethean hardlight, Halo 5 gave its players far more options than any other game before. It might be a grind to get them all, but these powerful weapons can give any player the edge they need in multiplayer.

8 Grand Theft Auto V (101)

GTA Online money cover

Grand Theft Auto V has a surprisingly small sum of guns for such a famously violent series. But 101 guns are still nothing to sneeze at, and they give players access to a huge variety of assault rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles, and even highly destructive grenade launchers and other explosive devices.

The grind is also relatively minimal, as the guns are far less expensive than cars or homes, and leveling up can be done quickly through heists. It’s no wonder Grand Theft Auto has become a worldwide phenomenon with the freedom it gives, and its weapons are no exception to this.

7 Totally Accurate Battlegrounds (126)

Totally Accurate Battlegrounds Gun

This wacky game is a spinoff of Totally Accurate Battle Simulator in the form of an online battle royale. But much like its inspiration, the fun lies more in the strange physics and weapons. These weird and silly weapons can all be modified with extra barrels and sights and range from amazing to ludicrous.

Totally Accurate Battlegrounds features 126 highly customizable weapons, from shooter classics like the Desert Eagle and M1 Garand to totally bonkers guns like the Glockinator (two pistols connected in the middle with a scope) and the balloon gun (which fires balloon arrows that send enemies floating away).

6 Fallout 4 (186)

Fallout 4 Gun

Fallout 4 has a massive number of weapons, almost all of which are capable of being modded, and many of which are hidden across the Commonwealth. Many of these come in the form of the oft-derided pipe gun, simple guns made from scraps of wood and pipe, but all of which are capable of being customized from a small pistol to a bayoneted assault rifle.

There are, of course, far more futuristic weapons, such as Gatling lasers, plasma rifles, and pulse grenades for disabling robotic enemies. There is even a wide variety of melee weapons, including a clawed gauntlet made from the hand of a deathclaw and the ripper, a handled chainsaw that can tear unarmored enemies apart.

5 Payday 2 (300)

Dallas holds a bundle of cash next to Houston on a helicopter in Payday 2 Crimewave Edition

Payday 2 features a wide variety of weapons, from melee weapons to guns to equipment such as Molotov cocktails and ECM jammers. Players will start out with nothing but a pistol, a suit, and a mask to pull off a small bank heist. By the end of their career, they will be assaulting the U.S. military at the White House with a giant golden spoon that sets their enemies ablaze while they mow down the opposition with dual-wielding shotguns.

Succeeding in a heist gives players XP and money, which lets them buy more guns and do more dangerous heists, and so on and so forth. There is definitely plenty of grind to Payday 2, but the rewards for progressing give a drip feed of gunpowder and dopamine that will bring a smile to any gamer’s face.

4 Terraria (570)

Terraria has grown over the years into a truly one-of-a-kind experience, and its weapon count has grown alongside it. Many of these weapons are earned from Terraria‘s incredibly difficult boss battles, and each one is more exciting than the last.

While Terraria players begin with only simple tools and weapons (much like in Minecraft), they will gradually build up a massive array of rare and destructive weapons. With almost 600 weapons available, the only thing holding players back is choosing which one to get first.

3 Earth Defense Force 4.1 The Shadow Of New Despair (825)

Earth Defense Force 4.1 Gun

This Japanese co-op horde shooter is, quite frankly, bizarre. The enemies are an odd mix of giant insects, robot drones, and kaiju, and their sheer volume is enough to make powerful PCs nervous. The only thing standing between these alien monsters and the complete destruction of humanity is the Earth Defense Force, and that’s where the players come in.

As the invasion progresses, Earth Defense Force players will graduate from standard-issue rifles to powerful laser weaponry, orbital targeting systems, and even giant mechs to combat the alien menace. Each of the four classes has a wide variety of weapons to choose from, and the right balance on the team is key to success. Although overwhelming at first, a veteran squad equipped with advanced weaponry, vehicle support, and armed to the teeth with grenade launchers and laser weapons will be able to make short work of the invaders.

2 Destiny 2 (1,436)

Destiny 2: A Titan running with Sweet Business.

Destiny 2 has one of the largest weapon counts of any shooter, even among other online games. With almost 1,500 unique variants of different weapons and plenty of ultra-rare exotics to be earned, players might find that the real problem is choosing which guns to keep and which to sell as they level up.

From sniper rifles and rocket launchers to machine guns, bows, and hand cannons, Destiny 2 puts its players in the last line of defense for what remains of the Human race and gives them every tool they could possibly need to stand against the Darkness. As the final battle looms, the Guardians prepare to take up arms, and they have no shortage of weapons at the ready.

1 Borderlands 3 (1,000,000,000)

Borderlands 3 Proving Grounds

The only thing Borderlands has more of than its fantastic DLCs is guns. The game that all but created the looter shooter genre has always been famous for its massive variety of weapons, but Borderlands 3 is a step above.

With literally a billion guns to choose from, Borderlands 3 is a shooter fan’s dream, and there are endless choices of weapons, each of which is unique in its own way. From the traditional assault rifles that players will wield at the start of their vault-hunting adventure to the utterly bizarre and wildly destructive Backburner Launcher and even more legendary weapons to be found throughout the game, Borderlands 3 offers up an all-you-can-shoot buffet.
