What Should We Expect from Barcelona Next Season?

What Should We Expect from Barcelona Next Season?

Barcelona may be in the top three for the 21-22 La Liga season, but there’s a sense that it’s just not good enough as Real Madrid runs away with the title.

The team failed to make it through the round of 16 stages in the Champions League, losing out to Bayern and Benfica. Ultimately, it’s been a poor performance both on and off the pitch for the former 5-time Champions League victors.

But with the manager and club legend Xavi at the helm and tasked with remoulding Barcelona, we may see big things in the next season. There are plenty of new signings and fresh players to spice things up – but the question of whether it will all gel together still looms.

Barcelona’s New Signings for the 22-23 season

The La Liga giants have been busy searching for new signings for the 22-23 season with a long list of new players making their way to the club.

Ferran Torres is the player holding the most promise signed for the transfer sum of £49.50m from Manchester City. The Spanish Forward explains that the decision was “a no-brainer” and moved to Barcelona with the goal of more game time. The 22-year-old is expected to add youthful energy to the forwards in the 22-23 season.

The introduction of Ferran Torres may be a direct substitution for Antoine Griezmann, currently on loan to Atlético Madrid for a £9m fee. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is also making his way to the Barcelona side from Arsenal on loan.

The team are by no means short of forwards with more than 10 currently warming the benches in the Spanish city. But that doesn’t mean that they’re not looking for another…

Robert Lewandowski and Romelu Lukaku have been linked to potentially making their way to Barcelona for the 22-23 season. Xavi will be finding his hands full not only rebuilding his Barcelona side but juggling the egos of so many forwards.

It doesn’t matter which way you look at it – so much talent squeezed into just 3 open positions is sure to create tension in the club.

The Return of Messi

It’s no secret that Lionel Messi is struggling to find his form in his new home in Paris Saint-Germain, but is a return to Barcelona on the horizon?

According to his former teammate, Dani Alves, Messi is unhappy at PSG and would be interested in a move back to Barcelona if possible. With a string of non-Messi performances, including being knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid, the fit at PSG just isn’t quite right.

Sure there are more than 10 forwards in Xavi’s current Barcelona squad – but how about just one more?

The Takeaway

When the dust settles and the 22-23 season begins, it’s safe to say that we’re going to see an in-form Barcelona aiming to hunt down Real Madrid.

With the Spanish capital’s side running away with the 21-22 season, Xavi has a large task on his hands with the rebuild of Barcelona. One thing for certain is that he won’t be short of talented forwards any time soon.

Whether or not Messi will make a return to the Spanish side is something that only time will tell. But with reports that the Argentinian star is unhappy at PSG, the dream return may be a possibility.
