Shampoo is big business. Almost every person uses shampoo and many people use it more than once a day. This is why the shampoo market is worth millions and there are plenty of companies fighting for their share.
It can take a lot of trial and error to find the perfect shampoo for your hair. You need to consider hair type, the hardness of your water, and whether the product is natural or not. Once you realize that some products, such as this Olaplex shampoo, are more effective and environmentally friendly, you may be reluctant to change shampoos.
The Shampoo Debate
There are those that say your hair will become accustomed to the shampoo you use and it will be less effective. This is debatable as a good-quality shampoo should perform the same job over and over again. However, it is worth noting that shampoos may leave natural oils and a little of the product in your hair after every wash. Over time this can mean your hair is blocked from getting the nutrition it needs.
Possible Solutions
There are two possible solutions to the debris buildup in your hair. The first is to stop using shampoo for a short period and just rinse your hair. This will encourage the removal of debris.
However, it will also leave your hair looking greasy and, after a short period, your hair is likely to start smelling. That’s not an attractive proposition.
Instead, you can simply change shampoos. Unfortunately, this means starting the trial and error process all over again to find a suitable shampoo.
The Best Course
In fact, the best thing you can do is to keep two shampoos at home. They should both be from the same product range as you already know they are good for your hair.
The best approach is to switch shampoos every 4-5 washes. That’s roughly once a week. When you switch use the shampoo that suits your issue. For example, if you get a dry scalp, then every five days use a dandruff shampoo.
Alternatively, graying hair deserves an anti-yellowing shampoo. You can also simply use a clarifying shampoo. By switching shampoos once a week you are ensuring your hair gets all the care it needs and looks fantastic all the time.
Switching shampoos is beneficial. But, this doesn’t mean you need to switch your brand. Once you find a brand you like and works for you, stick with it.
Skip the Shampoo
An increasing number of people are skipping the shampoo altogether and trying the self-clean route. While this is, in principle, a good idea, it is not generally a practical one. Sipping the shampoo means the bacteria will build up in your hair and on your scalp. This will create a mold that smells. You will have to be committed to living with this smell, although it should be noted it eventually passes.
It is much simpler and just as effective to find a shampoo that you like and use several different products from the same brand.
