As 2024 comes to a close, fans of Rockstar Games and Grand Theft Auto have been left with much to speak for when it comes to the next title in the massive franchise. While we got a trailer this year, no more details have been revealed about the upcoming game. In the middle of this lack of updates, it seems like one developer has chosen to take advantage of the situation and the hype by releasing their own parody game.
Called “Grand Taking Ages VI”, the game suddenly appeared in the PlayStation Store throughout the weekend and is now listed and available to wishlist. The “game” appears to be using AI-generated art, pulling attention from users who stumble upon the game, and with a set release date of May 2025 has seemingly managed to trick at least a few players.
“The Most Anticipated Game About Making The Most Anticipated Game!,” reads the game’s description in the PS Store page. “YOU’RE NOW IN CHARGE OF THE BIGGEST GAMING DISASTER… OR MASTERPIECE? Run your dream game studio while juggling angry fans, corporate chaos, and endless delays. Fight your way through gaming conventions, dodge ruthless journalists, and master the art of creative excuses.”
With bullet points claiming the game will have everything you could fit in a buzzword cheatsheet, from “Epic Battles” to “Endless Drama”, the game’s description even includes fake quotes and awards from real media site, and makes it seem like it’s an actual project. Whether or not this ends up being a real game, the message is clear: whoever uploaded this did so to call attention to the way the gaming industry has turned in the past years. Curiously, its appearance in the PlayStation Store also serves as an indicator that there is very little curation in play on the platform, as something like this was able to sneak past its regulations and is actually making a significant dent in the platform.
As for the actual ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’? recently, a former Rockstar Games developer revealed that the silence is part of the studio’s plan to generate hype, and took the opportunity to take on a variety of fan conspiracies that have started to brew in the community. However, all we know is that GTA 6 is scheduled for release in the fall of 2025 for Xbox Series X and PS5.
