NOW that we are deep into the Easter holidays, many parents may be feeling the strain on their purse strings, having to pay for quick snacks everywhere they go.
And with the cost of living crisis not looking like it will ease up anytime soon, many parents are searching for quick and cheap hacks to make life that bit more affordable.
One mum has taken to TikTok to share a simple but “brilliant” idea, which could save you £4.50 on sweet snacks.
Kirsty, who is known as @lifeofkirstyhughes on TikTok, shared a hack for mums who are out and about this Easter holiday or summer.
She said parents should invest in a stainless steel, thermostat tumbler – commonly known as Stanley cups – but dupes of them can cost as little as £11.99 on Amazon.
The cups can be used to keep hot drinks hot or cold drinks cold.
She then suggests filling the cup with ice and putting your own ice lollies inside to take out with you.
This means the ice lollies will stay frozen, and “you won’t have to pay £4.50 for an ice lolly when you’re out and about with the kids.”
After just one day of sharing the video, Kirsty received over 50,000 views, with 54 people rushing to the comments section to share their thoughts.
Many mums raved about the idea, calling it an “unreal idea.”
Another suggested that she could “just go out with a cooler box.”
But Kirsty replied: “Who’s going out with a big cooler box?”
However, other mums were big fans of the hack, having already experienced the high prices this Easter holiday.
One mum commented: “Love this hack, thanks.
“Absolutely shocking, the price for an ice cream, and we’ve always a team with us, so this would save a fortune.”
Another added: “That’s actually a really good idea.”
Easter Holiday cheap hacks
You don’t need to spend a fortune on taking your kids out this Easter holidays, as there are some at home activities you can do at a very cheap price.
If your child is into artsy projects, then this is the perfect time of year for them.
Scoop up the blossom from trees that has fallen to the ground, then dry them out at home by spreading them out on parchment paper and popping in the oven for a few minutes on a low.
These dried out petals can be used to create art with child-safe glue and paper.
Why do retailers close on Easter Sunday?
A legal mandate in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland dictates that all store locations over 280 square metres are required to close on Easter Sunday.
The Sunday Trading Act 1994 restricts the opening hours of larger stores on Sundays.
Smaller shops, under 280 square metres, are not subject to this law but many still choose to close to give their staff a break.
These rules also apply to locations on Christmas Day.
Scotland does not have specific restrictions on operating hours for these days.
