It’s finally here. Say hello to The Ordinary’s first-ever (took way too long ?) cleanser. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The soap-free and non-comedogenic nature of The Ordinary’s Squalane Cleanser protects the integrity of epidermal lipids and leaves any skin type feeling cleansed, moisturized and soft. Squalane, alongside other gentle esters, works to trap and dissolve facial impurities and makeup (even waterproof mascara), detaching them from the surface of the skin. Subsequently, the emulsifying sucrose esters blend the dissolved makeup and facial impurities with water, allowing them to be easily and efficiently rinsed away. ⁣?⁣ ⁣⁣ The Ordinary’s Squalane Cleanser undergoes 3 textural phases; 1) Balm-like upon dispensing, 2) Oil-like after rubbing between the palms of your hands and 3) Milk-like when combined with water. The cleanser should only be applied to dry skin once it has entered the oil-like phase. This change in texture is crucial in order to facilitate the efficient dissolving of facial impurities and makeup.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Although 50ml may not seem like a lot, the balm- (and later, oil-) like consistency of this formula spreads very easily and as such, a small amount is required upon application. We understand that more is always more for some, but please don’t be sad – a cuddlier size is already in the works. ?

What is The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser?

The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser has been dubbed as a ‘gentle, moisturizing facial cleanser’ and is suitable for all skin types. The formulation has been created to target makeup removal, whilst leaving the skin feeling smooth and moisturised.

And although this all sounds pretty standard in the realms of skin cleansers, what sets this cleanser apart from the rest is its main ingredient, squalane.

Unlike hyaluronic acid, which is a humectant that draws in water, squalane is an emollient that locks in moisture and helps to protect skin from moisture loss.

It’s also an antioxidant, meaning it’s nutrient-dense and fab at protecting our complexions from everyday environmental aggressors like radiation from the sun, pollution and cigarette smoke.

Being non-comedogenic (meaning it won’t clog your pores) and soap free, this cleanser is gentle enough for everyday use, without over-drying the skin.

The vegan cleanser is also oil, silicone, alcohol AND cruelty-free. And did we mention it costs just £5.50?

Although 50ml may not seem like a lot, the brand insists the formula spreads very easily and as a result, a very small amount is required upon application.

But you’ll be pleased to hear The Ordinary have said that ‘a cuddlier size’ is already in the works.

We can’t wait to see how it performs. And thankfully there’s never been a more affordable way to find out.
