The Best Day Trips to Take by Train Out of London

London is a fantastic city with an incredible amount to see and do for every type of visitor, but it is also worth looking slightly further afield as there are some lovely places to visit on a day trip by taking the train out of London and this can be a nice way to escape the busy city centre. Here are a few of the best places worth visiting:

Cambridge

Cambridge is one of the most historic and important cities in all of the UK. It is an incredibly pretty place with stunning architecture, the River Cam and lots of green spaces, plus there is a huge amount to see and do with the iconic University of Cambridge, the Gothic chapel, punting along the river and the Fitzwilliam Museum being a few highlights.

Stevenage

Located 28 miles north of London in Hertfordshire, Stevenage is a great day trip from the capital. A few of the main highlights include the stunning Knebworth House, Fairlands Valley Park, shopping in the traffic-free town centre (the first in England) and Stevenage Museum, plus you also have Letchworth Garden City and Welwyn Garden City to the north and south respectively. Getting trains to Stevenage from London is quick and easy so it is the ideal day trip.

Brighton

If you fancy a trip to the coast from London then Brighton is your best bet and takes about an hour by train. It is well worth the visit because it is a fun, vibrant and laid back city with many highlights to check out, including the beach, the Pier, the Royal Pavilion, The Laines and Sea Life Centre just to name a few. It is great fun in the summer when you can enjoy fish and chips on the beach but even winter time here is special so it is certainly a trip worth considering.

Royal Tunbridge Wells

A picture-perfect town in Western Kent just outside London, this ancient spa town is a lovely place to visit because it is surrounded by natural beauty with parks and pristine gardens but it also has listed buildings and an attractive high street which is perfect for shopping (and much quieter than shopping in London!).

If you are looking for a fun day out away from the capital then these are all great options because they are terrific places to explore, they are all easily accessible by train from London and they offer something different to what you will find in London.
