Tesco Early May Bank Holiday 2025 opening times: What time are stores open on the 5th?


BANK holidays are a time to relax, with millions of shoppers taking advantage of the Spring weather to have a BBQ.

However, supermarkets including Tesco will be operating under reduced hours over the Easter period so make sure you get everything you need in time.

Tesco’s bank holiday opening times

On Good Friday, the majority of Tesco’s stores will operate on slightly reduced hours.

The company’s large Superstore locations normally opening from 8am until 8pm.

Smaller Tesco Express stores are expected to follow their usual schedules on Good Friday, remaining open from early morning until late evening.

Tesco petrol stations will be available on Good Friday, with their opening times generally matching nearby store locations.

However, many of Tesco’s larger stores will close across the UK for Easter Sunday.

Some Tesco Express branches will remain open, but check in-store for more specific opening times.

Alternatively, check the Tesco app for more details.

On Easter Monday, Tesco Extra and Superstore locations will likely open between 8pm and 6pm, although hours may vary depending on the region.

Other supermarkets closing for the April bank holidays

Many other supermarkets will be operating similar hours to Tesco over the bank holiday period.

Asda, for example, will remain open as normal – with the exception of Easter Sunday, where they will shut all of their stores.

The chain will be open from 7am until 7pm on Easter Monday.

Aldi will also operate with its normal hours on Good Friday and Easter Monday, but will close on April 20.

Lidl will be matching Aldi’s opening hours over the Easter period.

Sainsbury’s will only fully close on Easter Sunday, but may operate under reduced hours on April 21.

How many UK bank holidays are there in 2025?

There are several bank holidays to look forward to after the two days off in Easter.

However, bank holidays differ in Scotland and Northern Ireland to England & Wales.

In both Scotland and Northern Ireland, December 1 is an extra day off for St Andrew’s Day.

Northern Ireland also gets an extra day off for the anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne.

England and Wales

Easter Sunday 2025 – Shop opening times

Most supermarkets will be operating reduced hours over the Easter period.

Supermarkets including Asda, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and M&S will all be closing on Easter Sunday but will run limited hours on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

Petrol stations will also adjust their hours, as will high street staples including Next and Primark.

Eateries like Greggs and homeware stores including B&M and Home Bargains will also change their opening times over Easter.
