Taylor Swift in talks for Ryan Murphy project amid boyfriend Travis Kelce starring in Grotesquerie

Ryan Murphy has revealed he’s been in talks with Taylor Swift‘s team over the years about potentially collaborating with the songstress.

The legendary TV producer, 58, revealed he has spoken with ‘Taylor’s people’ about ‘various things’ over the years – and would team up with the pop icon ‘in a heartbeat’ if she was able to work with him.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy, 58, was asked if he was attempting to cast Swift on season two of Grotesquerie, his latest show that features the singer’s boyfriend Travis Kelce, or had ever pitched an idea to her.

‘I’ve talked to Taylor’s people about various things through the years, and all I will say is that I think she’s great and if she ever has time to do it, I would do it in a heartbeat. I think she’s one of the greats.’

The singer, 34, has been dating the Kansas City Chiefs player, 35, for over a year now, a relationship Murphy described as a ‘pop-culture phenomenon.’

‘I was so shy talking to Travis about her. But he’s very sweet about it and respectful. They are a pop-culture phenomenon. It’s a very interesting dynamic, the way they’ve captured the imagination of the world.’

The producer also praised Kelce’s work in Grotesquerie.

‘But I always knew Travis could do it. I have this saying: A star is a star is a star. I just knew he could do it.

‘He rolls up his sleeves and he says, “Ok, let’s do this.” There’s that last scene of [Kelce and Nash-Betts] in episode three that I directed where they go in the red getaway car — that’s a little Taylor Swift nod for you there! — and they drive off to this black limbic space, which makes absolutely no sense. But it does make sense now, because you know [Lois] is in a coma.’

Should Taylor ever appear in one of Ryan’s shows, it wouldn’t be her first time acting – she’s appeared in the movie musical Cats, the 2022 film Amsterdam, and on an episode of New Girl.

For now, it’s her boyfriend who is appearing in small screens.

During his THR interview, Murphy also confirmed that a scene featuring Travis in the show pays homage to Swift.

While referring to the scene that Kelce and Nash-Betts attempt to flee the hospital together in a dream-like sequence, the prolific producer told THR that the pair’s ‘red getaway car’ is ‘a little Taylor Swift nod.’

His statement came following weeks of speculation that particular scene was a nod to Swift.

In Grotesquerie, Kelce plays Ed Lachlan, a recovering drug addict working as a nurse and is a potential love interest for Niecy Nash-Betts’ character, Detective Lois Tryon.

Ed first meets Lois at the hospital where her husband was in a coma. After finding her sitting on a bench and smoking a cigarette, Ed began sweet-talking the detective before she pulled out a flask and started drinking. He warned her not to get in her car but she proceeded to drive after drinking.

In the next scene, Lois crashes her car into a pole and wakes up in the hospital with Ed as her nurse. She convinces him to sneak out of the hospital against her doctor’s orders, and he obliges.

In a romantic and flirty sequence, Ed and Lois flee from the scene hand-in-hand before escaping in his red convertible.

The scene sparked a theory on social media that Lois and Ed’s getaway car was a subtle nod to one of Swift’s fan-favorite songs.

Replying to a clip of the scene posted to X, formerly known as social media, one fan wrote: ‘Omg it’s the getaway car!’

‘Lol. Taylor must be laughing now,’ another Swiftie added, referring to the pop icon’s love of Easter eggs, while another chimed in, posting, ‘Not the Taylor swift reference.’
