Susan Calman has shared her incredible weight-loss journey with fans, saying she is ‘stronger and fitter than ever before’.

The comedian, 49 – who appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017 – revealed it’s been ‘seven months’ since she decided to ‘change’ her life, by making better food choices and moving more.

Having suffered from depression and anxiety her whole life, Susan reflected that this lifestyle overhaul requires a huge amount of mental strength – but it’s helping her lift the clouds too.

Sharing two pictures of her transformation on Instagram, Susan wrote: ‘It’s been seven months since I decided to change my life.

‘I started training with @redefinept (the best motivator I’ve ever met), making better choices with food and moving more. My health was in a precarious position and needed to do something about it to stay healthy.

‘I’ve lost over 35 pounds but more importantly I’m stronger and fitter than I’ve ever been. It’s a real struggle sometimes, and requires far more mental strength than anything else.

‘As someone who has struggled with anxiety and depression my whole life I can honestly say that it’s helping me. A lot. I have a great deal of stress in my life just now, and lifting weights helps the clouds lift.

‘I’m not posting this to boast. Someone asked me recently if I was unwell because I’d lost so much weight so I wanted to clear that up. I also wanted to send encouragement to anyone in the same position.

‘It’s tough, it’s hard but I’m getting there. Slow and steady, stronger and stronger. I’m doing this for me, no one else. I hope you take this post in the right way.

‘If I can do something like this, anyone can. If you want to. You might not. You’re brilliant the way you are. Have a lovely Friday x.’

Susan previously admitted in an interview with The Guardian that she was happiest in life when dancing with Kevin Clifton on Strictly Come Dancing.

‘Genuinely – and my wife, Lee, knows this – dancing with Kevin Clifton on Strictly,’ she answered.

When asked what she most dislikes about her appearance, Susan answered: ‘That people seem to give a f**k about it and comment on it.’

Opening up about her mental health in a 2017 interview with Big Issue, Susan revealed she’s ‘always’ been anxious.

‘I’ve always been an anxious, worrisome person,’ she said. ‘I’ve always over-thought things. I have no idea why this is ingrained in my personality, it’s just the way I’ve always been.

‘A serious person, a shy person, someone who thinks about things very deeply, always worrying what people think of me. I know that sounds weird for a comedian and I should be full of fun and joy. But most of my life has been a battle to embrace the joy when I see it.’
