Landscapers are responsible for maintaining gardens and outdoor spaces all year long. The winter season takes a toll on gardens across the UK. Dead leaves collect around the flower beds, and the vibrant colours of summer fade away. However, with spring just around the corner, it’s time for landscapers to prepare for all the tasks ahead.
Here are a Few Tasks Landscapers Need to do in Spring.
Pruning
The garden has probably become a little overgrown in the winter. You need to prune the plants to help them grow and flourish in the spring. Pull back the dead leaves and use a pruning saw to cut through the branches. Pile the tangled dead leaves in a compost heap and start planning for the summer season.
Weeding
Weeding is one of the worst landscaping jobs. No matter how many times you pull out the weeds, there are always more to remove. Spend a few hours plucking every weed from the garden, and don’t leave any to chance. Every time you see a weed in the coming months, remove it straight away. It’s better to weed little and often than all in one go. Finally, lay down a de-weeder to stop any further weeds from growing.
Bulb Planting
Spring is the best time to plant bulbs. Get a head start on the growing period, and help your flowers last as long as possible. Choose a few different types of bulbs to create variety and colour in your gardens. You could even choose a few new shrubs to decorate the edges of the space. Think about the different colours and how you can make them blend seamlessly together.
Pest Control
Pests can ruin your clients’ gardens in no time at all. You should conduct regular examinations for pests and remove any existing ones immediately. Good soil should naturally deter garden pests. It’s important to keep your garden clean and well-maintained throughout the year to avoid an influx of pests. It also helps to water plants early in the morning and add beneficial insects. The animal food chain is a wonderful thing. If the problem persists, lay down a small amount of pesticide.
It’s easy to lose track of your progress in each client’s garden. Stay on top of your gardens this year, and create a list of every task you need to complete. Regular maintenance will keep your gardens healthy, tidy and colourful throughout the summer season.
