A new trailer has dropped for Trap and it’s so terrifying that you’ll never want to go to a concert ever again.

The upcoming psychological thriller is released on August 9 and is the latest from acclaimed director M Night Shyamalan – with Josh Hartnett leading the cast alongside Ariel Donoghue, Kid Cudi and Saleka Shyamalan.

The movie follows dad Cooper (Josh) chaperoning his daughter, Riley (Ariel) to a concert when he realizes the heavy police presence at the venue.

However, his night of fun is thrown into utter chaos as he learns that the gig is actually an elaborate ‘trap’ to snare a depraved serial killer, known only as the Butcher.

‘You know the Butcher? The freaking nut job that goes around chopping people up – the feds heard he’s going to be here today, so they set up a trap for him,’ he’s told.

‘This whole concert is a trap. They’re watching all the exits, they’re checking everyone that leaves.

‘There’s no way to get out of here.’

As Cooper’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic during the concert, he is seen stealing a police radio to keep up with their actions, while causing havoc at the venue.

A voiceover teases that the Butcher has realized he ‘can’t get out’, but instead of panicking, he will create chaos.

The trailer appears to hint that Josh’s character is at the center of all the deaths – but don’t forget, this is an M Night Shyamalan movie so we can expect more than a few twists along the way.

Unsurprisingly, the synopsis gives less than nothing away, simply reading: ‘A father and teen daughter attend a pop concert, where they realize they’re at the center of a dark and sinister event.’

Fans couldn’t get enough of the teaser and flocked to social media to praise the chilling footage.

Taking to Twitter, Yasmany Lopez said: ‘Ooooh this looks crazy and anxiety inducing. I’ll be watching!’

Jacob agreed: ‘This trailer feels a live-action version of the newer HITMAN games. Haven’t been this excited for a film in ages.’

Sithelo penned: ‘ M Night is so twisted, I can’t wait to watch this.’

Westy shared: ‘This might be the best trailer of all time.’

Over on Reddit, JMovie1 added: ‘Genuinely started clapping at the end of the trailer, god this looks like so much fun. Hartnett going around causing chaos at a concert venue is why we have cinema.’

Trap is the latest in a long line of iconic movies from filmmaker M Night Shyamalan – who was behind Knock at the Cabin, Old and the Sixth Sense.

He self-funded many of his own projects and, speaking to Empire, explained that this offers him a freedom to create original films in a time where reboots, sequels and revivals have dominated cinema.

‘I really do believe in the original movie,’ he said. ‘I want the industry to move towards more original storytelling. I think audiences would really like it.

‘Look, I know there’s safety in IP. But it’s really important that we come to the movies and see something we’ve never seen before. I’ll keep fighting for that.’

Bring on Trap next month…

Trap is released in cinemas on August 9.
