It is no secret that the late rapper Mac Miller was one of Ariana Grande’s tremendous loves and the singer has been sure to pay tribute to her ex ever since he passed away in 2018

Ariana Grande shares nostalgic candid video of Mac Miller
Ariana Grande has never been shy of showing her love to her late ex Mac Miller – but here some of the signs some fans may have missed.
The Wicked icon, 31, was left devastated when her rapper ex Mac passed away aged 26 from a suspected overdose at his home in Los Angeles. Emergency services were called for a patient in cardiac arrest but Mac was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was believed to have died from a drug overdose, but police found just a tiny amount of white powder in his home, according to TMZ. He passed away September 7, 2018.
The former couple dated for around a year-and-a-half before they split in early 2018. The pair split a few months before his death but Ariana has never got over losing him and has been dishing out the signs ever since.
Here are some ways she has continued to pay tribute to the late artist…
Music video mentions
Some Ariana fans have pointed out significant reference to Mac in one of her music videos, We Can’t Be Friends. Some have claimed the video may be a commentary on different kinds of loss — not just divorce. Although Ariana did call it quits with her ex-husband Dalton Gomez officially last year after three years of marriage.
However, if you’re familiar with the music video in question, there is a scene where Ariana is crying and begging to keep a special necklace from an ex. A fan spoke about this online and said: “There’s a flashback to when her former lover gave it to her, but then, as the memory is manipulated, the necklace transforms into a dog collar.
“A giant, fluffy dog replaces Ariana’s ex next to her. In real life, Ariana was left with Mac’s dog, Myron, after the rapper tragically died in 2018. She is probably implying that all she has left of him now is his dog.”
Man’s best friend
On that note, it feels like the right time to move on to the how Ariana went about taking care of Mac’s beloved pet pooch.
The rapper had originally adopted Myron, a pitbull mix, from Wylder’s Holistic Pet Center through The Wagmar, a Los Angeles-based pet hospital back when he and Ari were still an item, according to People. Ariana already had nine rescue pups of her own but after Mac passed she added one more to her pack by adopting Myron.
Back in 2020, the singer appeared on the Zach Sang Show to talk about her album Positions. During their chat, the host brought up the song Off the Table after the lyrics have led fans to speculate about the song’s inspiration, as the include lines such as ‘If I can’t have you, is love completely off the table’.
Zach said: “I think Off the Table and Myron are actually connected in some weird way. Did he hear the song?” To which Ariana responded: “Myron was sitting underneath my feet when I wrote that. But I think he loves that song.
“I think he also loves chewing my headphones and sitting right next to me as I’m working. He’s a little angel. He doesn’t leave me alone much. It’s very sweet.”
Lyrical intentions
Off the Table isn’t the only song with Mac to be mention, as her mega-hit thank u, next infamously names him throughout. After her split with Pete, she wrote: “Wish I could say ‘thank you’ to Malcolm / ‘Cause he was an angel,” in her track.
In other musical nods, he also got a few shoutouts in her 2020 album, Positions. One songs, six thirty, may be inspired by Mac’s leaked unreleased song 6:30. In another, just like magic, Ariana sings: “Take my pen and write some love letters to heaven.” After that line, there’s a pause in the music while crickets chirp. Since Mac was so special to Ariana, there will probably always be devastating but incredibly sweet little moments like this in her work.
Excuse me while I go watch we can’t be friends for the trillionth time.
Covering it up
Ariana is peppered with tattoos but there was one she appeared to regret. Ari was dating comedian Pete Davidson when Mac passed away and was actually engaged to him at the time after a whirlwind romance. However, not long after Mac’s death, they broke off it off.
During their relationship, Ariana had Pete’s late father’s New York Fire Department badge number etched on her foot. But after they split, she covered the tattoo with Myron’s name, in a not-so-subtle nod to her ever-lasting bond to Mac.
Make-up reminders
The stunning singer-songwriter appeared to dedicate a product in her REM makeup line to Mac. One TikTok user spotted the detail and shared: “When you pick up the REM Beauty Picking Petals lip oil and realise that Ari keeps sending us little Mac memories,” in reference to the peachy pink shade of the essential lip oil of the brand. “Forever missed #macmiller #Ariana Grande #rembeauty #makeup #beauty @rem beauty”
The shade’s name has its roots in Ari and Mac’s 2013 song The Way, where he says: “Picking petals off the flowers like / Do she love me, do she love me not?”
Decade on
In 2023, their track The Way celebrated 10 years of success and on X a fan account noted the anniversary of the song’s release.
They shared a clip from the video for the song and wrote: “Can’t believe it’s been a whole DECADE (and more) in this road together. How are u guys celebrating today?” Ariana responded “I love you.”
The singer then reposted the video on her Instagram Story with the same heartfelt caption.
