A MUM has been labelled a “genius” by other parents after sharing the secret way she’s been stashing cash to pay for her kids’ Christmas presents.
Ash explained that the trick is a “lifesaver” for her at Christmas and on birthdays, with people calling it “such a good idea”.
The mum-of-three has been sharing present hauls for her kids – a nine-year-old girl, a six-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter – on her TikTok page.
And in one of the clips, she revealed she saves up her Vinted balance over the year to spend on presents as and when they’re required.
One person commented on the video, writing: “I’m sorry but using your Vinted balance from selling things throughout the year is GENIUS.
“I’m doing that next year!”
Ash then used another TikTok video to further explain the nifty hack, as she said: “Lots of people have said that they never thought of that before.
“I don’t work at the moment, so I always try and find ways of helping my husband – relieving the stress that he doesn’t have to put hundreds aside at work for presents.”
Among her money-saving hacks is using Vinted, as she revealed she’s managed to pay for all three of her children’s Christmas and birthday presents with the £400 she saved up on there.
“If you do have Vinted and you are needing some extra money for your Christmas presents, definitely have a rummage through,” she added.
“Now is a really good time to sell on Vinted because obviously everyone’s looking to buy stuff for Christmas – especially toys.
“If you’re having a clear out, put aside books, Christmas stuff that doesn’t fit your kids, Christmas books.
“You know anything Christmas, put it on Vinted now because it will sell!”
Using her Vinted balance, Ash has been able to buy gifts such as Squishmallows to add to her nine-year-old’s whopping collection, as well as Disney bits and even board games from Smyths for the kids.
Ash added that she’s a massive advocate for “if I can get something cheaper then I will”.
And as well as using Vinted, she hits car boot sales and charity shops in search of bargain gifts.
“Such a good idea!” one person commented on the TikTok video.
As another added: “That’s what I’m doing this year as money’s very tight.
Do you need to pay tax on items sold on Vinted?
QUICK facts on tax from the team at Vinted…
- The only time that an item might be taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is profit (sells for more than you paid for it). Even then, you can use your capital gains tax-free allowance of £3,000 to offset it.
- Generally, only business sellers trading for profit (buying goods with the purpose of selling for more than they paid for them) might need to pay tax. Business sellers who trade for profit can use a tax-free allowance of £1,000, which has been in place since 2017.

“I’m having a ‘pay what you can afford’ week not a ‘what I’m asking for week’.”
“I always do this,” a third wrote.
“If big occasions are coming up – especially Christmas – money made buys presents, and if people sort their houses, loads of money to be made!”
“100% and it’s the perfect time to be able to sell stuff even quicker too,” Ash replied.
