A tricky brainteaser has created a stir online, with many social media users claiming it to be the “toughest”. A social media post on Reddit challenges readers to solve the toughest brainteaser they know, and it has left many people perplexed.
In response to the Reddit post, ‘What is the toughest brainteaser you know of?’, one user shared: “You have two lengths of rope. If you set fire to the end of either of them, the rope will burn in exactly one hour. They are not the same length or width as each other. They also are not of uniform width (they might, for example, be wider in the middle than at the end), thus burning half of the rope is not necessarily going to take 30 minutes.
“By burning the ropes, how do you measure exactly 45 minutes worth of time?” Before opening the floor up for answers, they clarified no watches or time measuring devises can be used.
Commenting on the puzzle, one user said: “I remember when I heard that riddle for the first time. Took me about 45 minutes to figure out.”
Another user added: “Maybe the real solution is ‘it takes exactly 45 minutes to solve the riddle so when you figure it out then you’ve measured 45 minutes’.” A third user said: “I’m not qualified for this thread…”
Brainteasers are puzzles, riddles, or problems designed to challenge thinking and problem-solving skills. They often require logic, creativity, lateral thinking, or mathematical reasoning to solve.
Did you find out the answer yet? One of the users who managed to find the answer explained and wrote: “Light one rope on both ends and one rope on one end. When the rope on both ends runs out, 30 minutes has passed and there is 30 minutes remaining on the other rope. Light the other end of that rope.”
