With his future in question Raheem Sterling should consider hanging up his boots and doing something else with his life, reckons Vinnie Jones.
Sterling appears to have played his last game for Chelsea after being axed from the squad for the opening two games of the Premier League season.
The Blues have expanded their squad to an absurd level and are trying to trim it down, with Sterling one of the casualties as he has been encouraged to find a new club.
The England international has three years on his contract which is worth around £300,000-a-week, so there are not many possibilities for him as he searches for a new home.
However, Manchester United have emerged as unlikely suitors, with a deal sending Jadon Sancho the other way being touted as a possibility.
Jones, though, reckons Sterling should consider retirement, despite only being 29 years old and still clearly capable of operating at a very high level.
‘Sterling not being in the squad was a little eyebrow-raiser,’ Jones told Mail Sport. ‘Everything comes to an end though and he’s done all right.
‘He scored a few goals, and he might do a job for someone else, but he’s had a fantastic career and if I was him I might think about going into something else.
‘He must be financially set up for life. So, go and enjoy life. He’s given the sport a lot in terms of England fans and at Liverpool and Man City.’
Jones, of course, has gone on to amazing success in acting after finishing his football career in 1998 at 34 years old.
The notoriously tough-tackling midfielder would like to see Sterling go out on top and look for something else to do after football.
‘He’s given a lot of fans a lot of enjoyment over the years and I don’t like seeing top players like him drift down through the leagues,’ said Jones.
‘I hope he doesn’t do that. I had a journalist once say that I would end up back at Wealdstone. So I spent my whole career proving him wrong.’
