Potato lovers can now spend the night inside a giant spud for £145 (no, we’re not kidding)

We’re used to potatoes coming in a variety of different forms from mashed, to fried, roasted and boiled. But a potato you can sleep inside… that’s a new one.

If the idea of sleeping inside a giant baked spud is appealing to you, then we’ve got just the thing for you.

You’ll want to get cracking and book a trip to Idaho in the US, specifically Boise, where you’ll find The Big Idaho Potato Hotel.

This Airbnb on a farm has been created inside of a giant potato (alas, it’s not a real one), which was originally built for the Big Idaho Potato Tour and weighs six tonne. I swear, we’re not making this up.

During the tour the giant spud, which is made of made of steel, plaster and concrete, was driven on the back of a semi-trailer truck visiting 48 states in America to raise awareness about Idaho’s most famous vegetable.

The tour was only meant to last a year, but ended up spanning seven years, and when it finally ended the potato was transformed into a very unique place to stay, being ‘planted’ in a field in South Boise with breathtaking views of the Owyhee Mountains.

The transformation was completed by Kristie Wolfe, a former member of the Potato Truck Tour team and a tiny house builder, and the inside features a double bed, a rustic antler chandelier, two pink arm chairs, shelves with some books on, plus a small sink, a mini fridge, and a record player.

It’s surprisingly stylish inside, looks very comfortable, and is eco-friendly — it even has power outlets so you can use all your devices inside the potato.

Just outside you’ll find a silo that’s been turned into a bathroom/spa, complete with a bathtub that allows you to ‘soak and look up at the stars’. And if all of this wasn’t enough, The Big Idaho Potato Hotel comes with the cutest jersey cow who will be your fuzzy pet for the stay. Her name’s Dolly.

The Airbnb description reads: ‘If you love the fluffy feeling you get when you eat Idaho potatoes, you’ll love staying in a giant potato turned cozy, grown-up getaway for two!’

A stay at the unique hotel will set you back £145 a night, but it’s worth noting that if you book through Airbnb there are additional fees on top of this, including a £57 cleaning fee, £37 Airbnb service fee, plus £16 for US taxes. This takes the total up to £255 per night.

However, it might just be worth the cost as it’s listed as one of the ‘most loved’ homes on Airbnb, with an overall rating of 4.9 stars.

One five star review by a guest named Rachel reads: ‘My spouse and I planned our entire vacation around getting one night in the potato, all the way from Pennsylvania! I couldn’t wait to stay in the potato! Even my husband enjoyed it too!

‘The bathroom silo was so awesome, the huge soaking tub and shower! Stop reading this review and book your own special potato stay!!!!!!’

While Sarah wrote: ‘We had a lovely night at The Potato Hotel. Such a fun, quirky space and we really appreciated all of the thoughtful touches on the inside. Cozy, but well appointed.’

And Erica added: ‘Definitely a fun experience that everyone should consider when they find themselves visiting Idaho! It was such a unique stay that you will come away with photos and memories that you will cherish and brag about for a long long time!’
