Fans of the Beatles icon Paul McCartney have been moved to tears by his latest performance, with many taking to social media to share their heartbreak over the ‘sad detail’

Fans of the legendary songwriter, Paul McCartney, were left in tears by a recent performance from the singer. The Beatles’ icon performed three songs from Abbey Road in tribute to the 50th anniversary of the hit comedy show Saturday Night Live.

After his surprise performances in New York City, Sir Paul left some fans heartbroken due to a poignant detail harking back to one of his previous appearances on the show.

Some viewers noticed a lyrical reference to a previous appearance on Saturday Night Live for Sir Paul, where he featured in a number of sketches. One of which was remembered by fans of the show featured McCartney alongside the late actor, Chris Farley, reports the Mirror US.

During the skit, Farley fondly quoted lyrics to The End back to the iconic musician and quizzed him.

He can be heard asking: “And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make. Is that true? ” The heartfelt tribute to Farley during the show’s finale left many fans overcome with emotion.

One fan wrote: “Paul McCartney performing Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight as a nod to Chris Farley during the SNL 50th Anniversary… ‘that was awesome! ‘ Not a dry eye in my house.”

Another viewer echoed this sentiment, saying, “Poetic at the SNL 50th Anniversary that Paul McCartney performed ‘The End’ with the line ‘”and in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make.

“Which was a callback to a sketch he started in with the late great Chris Farley!”

Fans also praised McCartney’s enduring songwriting talents. A post read: “The “You Never Give Me Your Money” reprise during “Carry That Weight” maybe the greatest moment in recorded music. Blew open my mind when I was nine years old and hits like crack every single time.”

Another fan commented: “It is incredible that he sounds like this at this stage and that he is still doing this – we are so lucky.”

While another added, touching on the emotional depth, “Hearing Paul McCartney sing these specific songs in his weathered voice that has been through life brings new feeling to the words. I cried.”

A fan had a bittersweet takeaway from Sir Paul McCartney’s recent gig, saying: “One of my favourites by the great Sir Paul. I wish he’d have transposed it or reworked the melody to suit where his voice was. Can’t be on every night. I get that, but the fix would have been relatively easy.”

His performance has since gone viral, with many members of the public being moved to tears. One user wrote: “Eighty-two and still effortlessly able to make me cry.”

McCartney played Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight, and The End, the final three songs in a medley heard on Abbey Road’s B-side.
