A SMART nappy tells parents when their baby needs changing.
Pampers’ reusable sensor clips to special disposable diapers and alerts parents via an app when it is wet.
The device, called Lumi, tracks a baby’s sleep, feed, and wee patterns.
The system includes a WiFi – connected night vision video camera that also monitors a room’s temperature and humidity.
Parents can check daily and weekly data — shown as graphs on an app — that can be shared with their GP.
Procter and Gamble, Pampers’ parent firm, developed Lumi with Verity, Google’s life sciences sister company.
The nappy giant said: “Lumi makes it easy to track your baby’s feeding, diapering, sleep routines and key milestones. You can monitor your baby’s unique patterns and see emerging routines.”
The sensor must be replaced every three months and the app launches later this year.
But privacy campaigners worry about storing the personal data and keeping it safe. In 2018 Huggies marketed a poo alert sensor in South Korea and Japan.
