Outlander's Uncle Lamb history explored ahead of prequel series Blood of My Blood

The Droughtlander may be in full swing, but fans of Outlander can look forward to a prequel series titled Outlander: Blood of My Blood, set to air this summer. The show will take viewers back in time, focusing on two distinct eras before the events of the original series.

The spotlight will be on Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) and his wife Claire’s (Caitríona Balfe) parents, with their respective and passionate love stories unfolding. Fans are eager to delve into the origins of Jamie and Claire’s parents and unravel some of the enigmas surrounding time travel.

Throughout Outlander, the rules of time travel and supernatural abilities have been left vague. However, one thing is certain: these powers are inherited, suggesting that Claire’s parents must have possessed them.

Furthermore, it’s possible that Claire’s guardian Quentin Lambert Beauchamp or ‘Uncle Lamb’ (Prentis Hancock), also a Beauchamp, had these time-travelling abilities. After the death of his brother and sister-in-law in 1923, Uncle Lamb raised Claire with the assistance of his Persian manservant Firouz.

Initially planning to send her to boarding school, he changed his mind after her refusal, instead taking her around the world on his archaeological digs, reports the Scottish Daily Express.

Claire and Uncle Lamb embarked on a journey across continents, from South America to the Middle East. She became accustomed to sleeping in tents and living without modern conveniences and luxuries, which made adapting to life with Jamie less of a leap for her.

Uncle Lamb lived long enough to see Claire marry her historian husband Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies), having essentially introduced the couple through his work. Tragically, Uncle Lamb died in the Blitz while delivering a lecture at the British Museum, which in reality was bombed six times, with the final air raid occurring in 1941.

Many artefacts were moved into an underground tunnel at nearby Aldwych Tube Station to protect them from damage and fires. Outlander fans appear to have identified the actor playing Uncle Lamb in Blood of My Blood as George Kemp, credited as ‘Quentin Lambert’ in the series.

He is expected to feature in the first three episodes, providing more insight into his life before becoming Claire’s guardian. There is also speculation that he, like his brother Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine), could be a time traveller.

There are still unanswered questions about the time-travelling abilities of Claire’s mother, Julia Beauchamp (played by Hermione Corfield). There has been speculation that the 20th-century doctor’s parents didn’t die but instead vanished to a different era.

Outlander is streaming on MGM+ via Prime Video now

Blood of My Blood will be released on Starz and MGM+ via Prime Video this summer
