Outlander fans have been distracted by Sam Heughan’s incredible Jamie Fraser wig in the latest update from behind the scenes.
The hit Starz series has been celebrating reaching 100 episodes filmed, with just one more to go before the entire final season is in the can.
Over on Instagram, the show’s official account shared a snap of Sam, Caitriona Balfe, Lord John Grey star David Berry and producer Matthew B Roberts to commemorate the milestone.
The trio of actors were in full costume, including Sam wielding a period-accurate sword to cut a cake marking Outlander’s achievement.
However, fans in the comments couldn’t help pointing out that the Scottish heartthrob’s hair looked rather different from what they’ve been used to.
While Jamie has grown his hair out to a long ponytail in recent seasons, in this behind-the-scenes set photo he was letting his wig’s ginger tresses hang magnificently over his shoulders.
“JAMIE’S HAIRRRRRR,” one Instagram user exclaimed.
And another said: “LOVE Jamie’s hair! FINALLY, the first wig I’ve actually liked since Sam used his actual hair in S1 & 2.
“Though, he does kinda look like a pirate here, which may be why I like it more.”
The change, which may or may not be seen in the actual episodes when season eight is finally released, also caught the attention of fans on Reddit.
“We finally getting some scenes with Jamie’s long hair down??? Pls I beg!” one fan shared in a recent post.
To which an enamoured viewer replied: “I gotta say — the long flowing locks framing that brilliant smile — be still, my heart.”
And a final fan said: “It’s described that way SO often in the books! I hope we’ll see it on screen too!”
Starz’ successful historical fantasy drama is based on a series of novels by Diana Gabaldon, which is set to conclude with its 10th instalment.
As the small-screen adaptation will finish with season eight, fans are waiting with bated breath to discover how Claire and Jamie’s story ends.
For the time being, they still have the second half of season seven to look forward to, which begins in just under two months.
