Outlander fans distracted as they spot bizarre Roger detail in season 7b first-look

Outlander star Richard Rankin strikes a rather strange pose in the latest first-look pictures from season seven, part two.

The hugely successful Starz historical drama will finally make its return this November after over a year’s wait since last summer’s midseason finale.

Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) will be heading back to Scotland, while Roger MacKenzie (Richard) and William Buccleigh ‘Buck’ MacKenzie (Diarmaid Murtagh) go back in time in search of Roger and Brianna’s (Sophie Skelton) son Jemmy.

New stills from the upcoming episode confirm the return of some beloved (and not so beloved) characters, such as Roger’s ancestors Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish) and Geillis Duncan (Lotte Verbeek).

However, one of the biggest talking points was Roger’s look in his and Brianna’s modern life in the 1980s.

Fans couldn’t help remarking on his somewhat theatrical pose and odd-looking hand as he spread his arms to lean on their car.

“Lol idk why but Roger’s hand in the car pic took me out,” one fan replied when the images were posted on Reddit, adding crying with laughter emojis.

“Same!! I was looking for this comment,” a second replied.

Another viewer shared a close-up of the hand, adding, “That thumb is doing some crazy s**t!”

And another pointed out: “It looks like an AI hand lol.”

While someone else commented: “I was hoping someone else saw it too. All he has to do is tilt his head back and dump a bucket of water over himself. Its such a jarringly “fabulous” pose lmao.”

Thankfully for actor Richard, many other fans were much more complimentary and he may have even overtaken his co-star Sam as Outlander’s biggest heartthrob.

“Roger in the 80s is so freaking handsome. I love the haircut and the beard,” one admirer said.

“Never did I ever think I’d find Roger hot but COME ON,” another said, with some fiery emojis for good measure.

“I’ve always found the actor good looking, but the period hairstyles he wore didn’t flatter him,” another admitted. “The current one, though… Agreed, he looks gorgeous.”

Outlander’s legion of fans will be watching on tenterhooks to find out if Roger’s mission in the past will be successful and Brianna manages to reunite with her dishy husband in the 20th Century.

Outlander season 7, part 2 premieres Sunday, November 22 on Starz.
