Nvidia’s RTX 5090 graphics card specs leak ahead of rumoured 2025 reveal

While consoles gamers might be anticipating the juiced up power from the PS5 Pro, there’s a whole other arms race going on in the PC space at the moment.

If you’re committed to the world of high-end PCs, you might be looking forward to Nvidia’s next generation Blackwell graphics cards, with the Nvidia RTX 5090 looking set to become the most powerful on the market.

A reliable leaker has now released specifications for both the RTX 5090 and the RTX 5080, and they’re certainly not going to be cheap.

As leaked by Kopite7kimi, the flagship RTX 5090 gaming model will apparently boast a massive 21,760 FP32 CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture) cores, for processing power, and 32GB of GDDR7 video RAM on a 512-bit memory bus.

If that’s just a wall of incomprehensible numbers, you might get a better grasp of its scale when compared to the leaked specs for the lesser RTX 5080 model. According to the leak, that will boast 10,752 CUDA cores and 16GB of GDDR7 video RAM on a 256-bit bus, so it’s roughly half as a powerful numbers wise.

The biggest eye sore, however, is how much power these cards will consume. If you’re hoping to run the RTX 5090, you’ll apparently need a 600 watt power supply unit (PSU), while the RTX 5080 is listed at 400W. For comparison, the previous generation RTX 4080 model had a 320W requirement.

As noted by VideoCardz, however, it’s unclear if this power amount refers to the total board power (TBP) or total graphics power (TGP), so the RTX 5090 might not require 600W to function.

How powerful are Nvidia’s new RTX cards?

The RTX 5080 overall is a slightly more modest upgrade over the RTX 4080, as it possesses the same amount of VRAM, which might be disappointing for those looking for a significant, yet still somewhat affordable upgrade in comparison to the RTX 5090.

The latter, however, is a noticeable step up from the previous flagship RTX 4090, jumping up from 24GB of memory to 32GB, and possessing 33% more CUDA cores.

Nvidia hasn’t officially announced any specifications, or details about when these graphics cards will be released, but a new rumour from Chinese site Benchlife claims the cards will be shown at CES 2025, which takes place between 7-10 January in Las Vegas.

Previous rumours, however, suggested Nvidia is planning to debut the Blackwell cards at some point this year, but a reveal at CES does seem more likely.
