Netflix viewers are furious after the series Kaos was cancelled after just one season.

Created by End of the F***ing World’s Charlie Covell, the eight-part comedy series was released on the streaming service in late August.

Set in a present-day alternate Crete in the city Heraklion, it revolved around three humans ‘as they discovered their common connection to a prophecy and to each other while dealing with the corrupt and arrogant gods of Greek and Roman mythology’.

It starred Jeff Goldblum as Zeus, Janet McTeer as Hera, Aurora Perrineau as Eurydice (‘Riddy’), Cliff Curtis as Poseidon, David Thewlis as Hades, Rakie Ayola as Persephone, Killian Scott as Orpheus, Debi Mazar as Medusa and Billie Piper as Cassandra.

However just over a month since it hit screens, Kaos has now been axed.

In a since deleted post, Perrineau broke the news to fans, saying she was ‘hurting’ following the decision to not film another season.

Fans of the series are frustrated too, with many sharing their thoughts on social media.

‘Are you kidding me? This show was brilliant… and ended on a huge cliffhanger,’ user BastiTheGreat posted on X.

‘One of the best original shows they’ve done in years but they’ll take the budget from this and make 807 shitty dating shows,’ medusaglanced commented.

‘The show was clever and brilliantly written and acted,’ GinaRClark added.

Another questioned ‘what was the point’ of subscribing to Netflix anymore after its latest cancellation.

Many others said the show had barely been given any time to be watched by viewers.

Although Kaos did spend four weeks in the Netflix top 10 charts upon its release, it failed to garner a significant audience in that time.

It peaked at number three on the English language TV chart in its second week of streaming, with its peak viewership hitting just 5.9 million views.

That was in comparison to the recent crime drama Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story which had 19.5 million views in its first week of being released.

Kaos was originally conceived as a three-season series, with Covell previously explaining the first season’s finale set up several potential storylines for future installments, including the weakening of Zeus’s power and the rise of Prometheus as a new leader.

In her lengthy statement, Perrineau said she had ‘the time of my life’ filming the series.

‘Everyone was brilliant and uniquely themselves. Every performance surprised and excited me. I can’t believe I got to do this with all of you. We made something weird, dark, hilarious, deranged and absolutely tragic – something entirely human. THIS is a feeling I plan to take with me,’ she shared.

Metro.co.uk has contacted Netflix for comment.
