POPULAR baby names like Matilda and Oscar are being slammed by parents for being too common.

As unusual monikers grow in popularity, it seems more traditional choices are being shunned.

Taking to Mumsnet, one parent asked why certain names were so common.

They said: “There are some names like Connie and Matilda…. Popular ones that I hate and just don’t get.

“Any names that are popular you just don’t get?!”

The post has racked up nearly 300 replies, and it turns out there are a lot of names people have blacklisted.

‘Common’ girl’s names parents dislike

  • Connie
  • Matilda
  • Ruth
  • Olivia
  • Isabelle
  • Emma
  • Amelia

Despite being a children’s classic, it seems Matilda is a big no-no from mums.

Another person agreed with the poster, saying: “I also hate Matilda, it’s such an ugly clunky name.

“I also hate the name Ruth, it really makes my teeth itch. Sorry to any Ruth’s out there!”

This person branded some popular names as pretty average, saying: “Wallpaper names like Olivia, Isabelle, Emma, just generic and forgettable.”

And despite one of these making the top 10, this person raged: “Amelia and Jack are names I just don’t get.

“Both just meh, can’t see how they got so popular.”

Plus it seems this name doesn’t have the royal seal of approval with one person, who said: “George. It’s such a fleshy, bovine kind of name.”

Another royal connection, this person wrote: “No go’s for me would be William, Oliver, Samuel, Jack etc.”

‘Common’ boy’s names parents dislike

  • Jack
  • George
  • William
  • Oliver
  • Samuel
  • Oscar
  • Jake

This popular choice was slammed, with another person suggesting: “Oscar… just can’t stand it.”

This person gave a reason for their choice at least, saying: “Jake. I’m a teacher and yet to meet a nice, well behaved Jake.”

Sadly for one person, it seems their name also made the cut.

They confessed: “I could have written this list myself – my names on it! Just so dull and common.”

Another parent branded anything ending with a ‘den’ as out – except one name.

They said: “Any kind of Jayden/Kayden/Shayden/Hayden etc (although just Aidan is fine).”

This ending also proved unpopular, with one person commenting: “Ones that end in ‘son’ especially for a girl. Bizarre.”

And last names also angered people, with one person saying: “Surnames for first names… just don’t get it.

“Cooper, Harrison, Taylor and so on. Sounds really impersonal to me, sorry.”

This name certainly isn’t common, after a woman named her daughter Disney.

Neither are these, after mums revealed they called their kids Awesome, Buzz and Lucifer.

And if you’ve got children, watch out for turning into a snowplough parent.
