Mum-to-be devastated after friends think her baby name sounds ‘better suited to a dog’

EVERYONE has different tastes, which means not everyone will approve of your chosen baby name.

But one mum-to-be was left devastated when she decided to share her name with family and friends – only for the majority of her pals to say it was best suited to a dog.

Taking to a popular parenting forum, the mum asked other parents for advice, revealing everyone she tells “pulls a face”.

“I know it doesn’t matter what others think, but… We’ve fallen in love with the name Huxley but whenever I tell anyone they pull a face and say it’s a dog’s name,” the woman wrote on Netmums.

“I’m trying to stick to what my partner and I like but it’s so disheartening.

“Can you just ignore negative opinions or should I be listening to them?”

The internet was divided over the issue, with many reassuring the mum that Huxley is a lovely name.

Others advised her not to listen to other people’s opinions while one fellow mum admitted she didn’t reveal her baby’s name until the tot had arrived.

“Huxley is a lovely name!” She wrote.

“I didn’t tell anyone our baby’s name ’til she was here.

“In the early days when I suggested a name and someone said ‘ewwww’ I’d reply jokingly with ‘well if that’s what I decide you don’t need to hold her if you don’t like her name’ and it would shut people up.”

“I wouldn’t care less, as long as it’s a name that both of us adore and a name that our kid wouldn’t have trouble with in school that will affect personal confidence, take it,” wrote another.

“Huxley doesn’t sound like a name that your child will have trouble with in school later on.”

Others were less sympathetic, however, with one revealing they planned on stealing the name for their puppy.

“It’s the perfect name for a dog. Not a baby. In fact I might steal it for my puppy,” they wrote.

Another reminded the mum that Huxley is also the name of an animated pig cartoon.

And it seems the mum wasn’t alone, after other parents revealed they had experienced a similar problem when it came to naming their own children.

“I had the same thing when my son was born. I named my son Ned, and nobody liked it but now 12 years later I can’t think of any other name that would suit him,” wrote one parent.

“If you love the name, keep it.”
