A star of Mrs Brown’s Boys has welcomed a new arrival into the world, with the actor celebrating his extra special ‘rainbow baby’.
Gary Hollywood, 45, who joined the original Irish series in 2004 as Dino Doyle and played him on the BBC version between 2011 and 2020, shared the happy news with fans.
The comedy actor’s wife Cherylanne, 35, suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage in 2023 – the couple found out they’d lost the baby around the time of her 12-week scan.
But on Saturday, Gary and Cherylanne were able to introduce everyone to their ‘rainbow baby’ on social media, with Gary revealing how they were both getting on.
Gary, who’s already a dad to Jack, Zach, and Charlie from his previous partners, said: ‘I cried at all my children’s births and because this was a rainbow baby, it made it even more special.’
A ‘rainbow baby’ is the name given to a child who is born after the mother has previously suffered a miscarriage during a prior pregnancy.
Cherylanne and Gary told OK! that the name of their newborn is Carter John Hollywood and that he was born weighing 7lbs 4oz in mid-October.
He continued: ‘I think I enjoy [fatherhood] more now. When I was in my 20s, I was chasing my career and money and not really cherishing the moment.
Gary and Cherylanne welcomed four-year-old Ollie into the world together in 2020, and the Take the High Road actor now says he makes sure to savour every memory.
‘I missed out on a lot [with the children I had in my 20s]. Now, with Carter and Ollie being born and leaving Mrs. Brown’s Boys, I get to enjoy every minute and cherish those moments.’
For Cherylanne, pregnancy was ‘a mixture of nerves and excitement,’ admitting to feeling apprehensive following the heartbreak of her miscarriage in 2023.
‘We didn’t actually talk about it to each other,’ she said. ‘We went out for dinner one night and I just broke down crying – and then Gary did too.’
Gary left Mrs. Brown’s Boys in 2020 after working alongside the show’s creator Brendon O’Carroll for almost 20 years, quitting after playing Dino in more than 25 episodes.
The Scottish actor also joined the live Mrs Brown’s Boys show, which toured around the UK for a number of shows throughout the 2010s.
In December 2020, he revealed he was taking legal action against his former co-star over a pay dispute and alleged unfair treatment, but it was revealed he’d dropped the case six months later.
Back in 2017, Gary split from his wife Sharon Mudre after 14 years together – they shared sons Jack and Charlie. Gary shares son Zach with his childhood sweetheart Anne.
