Meghan Markle has broken her silence following shocking allegations made by the chair of Prince Harry’s charity, Sentable, earlier this week
Meghan Markle has made a pointed remark regarding the UK as her husband finds himself embroiled in a contentious charity dispute.
Amidst a storm of controversy surrounding Sentebale, a charity Prince Harry co-founded in memory of his mother, Princess Diana, the Duke has reportedly stepped down from the charity he dedicated years to following intense disputes within the boardroom. Key figures including his co-founder, Prince Seeiso, and other trustees left alongside him.
A bombshell joint statement from both Harry and Seeiso accused the charity’s board chairwoman, Dr Sophie Chandauka, of launching legal action against the charity after she was requested to step down by its trustees.
In a fierce counterattack, Chandauka has come forth with serious accusations, including bullying and misogyny – claims vehemently denied by those who exited the charity.
The remarks have led to her branding the Sussex name as ‘toxic’. While the Duke’s side hasn’t addressed these allegations in public, insiders close to Prince Harry have labeled them ‘groundless’.
In a recent development, while a former trustee of the charity expresses worry over Harry’s ‘mental well-being’ due to his ‘devastating’ choice to resign, Meghan has ended her social media silence following Dr Chandauka’s explosive commentary over the weekend, reports the Mirror.
By posting an image of a lemon cake on social media, the Duchess, fresh from the launch of her food and homemaking series on Netflix, captioned it with: “Our family tradition. Mothering Sunday in the UK.”
The brief caption hints at her time in the UK before they stepped down as working royals to start a new life in America. Meghan, mother to Archie and Lilibet, last visited the UK in September 2022, when she and Harry attended the funeral of his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.
Prince Harry has made several trips back to his home country since their dramatic exit, with his most recent visit being in September 2024 for the WellChild awards.
This news comes as insiders close to Harry suggested on Friday that he is feeling “lonely” in Montecito, California. With his latest departure from Sentable, there are concerns that the Duke may be struggling to find his purpose.
They even suggest that the Duke is starting to appear like ‘Meghan’s Spare’, adding that he has had minimal contact with his family in years.
A source told The Sun: “He misses his family terribly, but no one is speaking to him any more. He just wants to go for a beer with the guys, but his only friends are just Meghan’s friends’ husbands.”
Dr Sophie Chandauka has levelled serious allegations against Prince Harry, accusing him of “harassment and bullying at scale” in a revealing interview with Sky News. She further claimed that the Duke had “unleashed the Sussex machine” on her.
However, an insider with intimate knowledge of Sentebale alleges that Dr Chandauka herself faces accusations of bullying staff and tampering with board meeting minutes. A report under review by the Charity Commission is said to include issues regarding Chandauka’s governance and her alleged “manipulation of minutes to endorse her false claims of bullying and misogyny”, as reported by The Times.
In response to Dr Chandauka’s recent statements about Prince Harry, royal insiders have countered, labelling her remarks as a “deflection”. They assert that the resignations of the trustees and Harry were a “direct result of the chair’s mismanagement.”
