Erling Haaland took part in Manchester City training on Friday ahead of their Premier League clash against Brentford.

The striker was granted the option of compassionate leave this week following the death of his close friend Ivar Eggja.

When asked about Haaland’s availability during his press conference on Friday, Pep Guardiola said a late decision would be made over the 24-year-old.

‘It’s a tough moment for him and his family,’ Guardiola said.

‘It was sad, sad news, he’s a close person, him and his family, 59 years old, our thoughts are of course with his friends and family. It’s sad.

‘We’ll see tomorrow if he’s able, mentally and physically, to play.’

However, City subsequently confirmed that Haaland took part in Friday’s training session with his teammates, which indicates that the striker is preparing to play in Saturday’s game against Brentford at the Etihad Stadium.

Haaland affectionately referred to Eggja as ‘uncle’ and the 59-year-old was a key figure in the striker’s entourage before his death.

In his tribute post to Eggia on Instagram, Haaland wrote: ‘You are a legend, Ivar.

‘Words cannot describe how much you meant to me! Words cannot describe how much you will be missed!

‘Thank you for everything, you madman. We will see each other again. Rest in peace, Ivar.’

Haaland already has seven goals in three Premier League games this season and has scored consecutive hat-tricks against Ipswich Town and West Ham.

Elsewhere, Guardiola has also confirmed that Rodri and Phil Foden have trained without issue this week and are available to play against Brentford.
