Mohamed Salah has lifted the lid on a simple yet effective piece of advice he once received from Arsene Wenger when he spoke with the ex-Arsenal manager at Liverpool’s training ground.

The 32-year-old Egyptian has established himself as one of the most revered attackers in Premier League history since swapping Roma for Liverpool back in 2017.

In that time, Salah has only once dropped below 25 goals-a-season for the Merseyside giants in all competitions and the forward has flown out of the blocks again this term, netting ten times in his opening 17 appearances.

Having lifted seven pieces of silverware across the Jurgen Klopp era, Salah will no doubt be desperate to add to his trophy haul before the end of the campaign, with the Reds flying high with a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table under Arne Slot.

Salah has prided himself on remaining switched from the first whistle to the last within games throughout his extraordinary Anfield career – a quality former Arsenal boss Wenger clearly admires in a footballer.

‘I got advice from Arsene Wenger before. He was at Melwood at the time and I asked him what the difference is between a good player and a really, really good player,’ Salah told Liverpool’s official website.

‘He said, “I think the very, very good player is always focused in the game, even if he doesn’t have the momentum, he stays in the game until the last minute or until the whistle”.

‘For me, I know there are some games when I don’t have the momentum, I don’t have the game.

‘But I’m always focused in the game to finish stuff so I don’t mind that.

‘Even [Liverpool assistant] Johnny [Heitinga], when he came here this year, he was like “Mo, you’re not playing good today”, and I said, “Yeah, but I always find the moment”, I’m not always very good in a game. It’s normal, we’re still human.’

Salah’s long-term future with Liverpool remains uncertain, with the Egypt international out of contract at the end of the campaign and repeatedly hinting he could be on the move.

However, Slot has managed to maintain a level of calm since taking over the reins from Klopp and is relaxed about the situation.

‘Mo is in a very good place at the moment, as long as he’s been at Liverpool he’s been in a good place but this season again as well,’ Slot told reporters before Liverpool’s recent win over Bayer Leverkusen.

‘What’s important for me is how he plays and what he tells me when we have conversations and that’s what matters and not how you guys interpret one of hissocial media posts.

‘He is out of contract at the end of the season and Virgil [van Dijk] said something in the past and now he has a post which you interpret in a certain way, this will probably continue for as long as their futures are not clear.

‘But in the meantime let’s hope they bring in the performances like Mo and Virgil had as well at the weekend.’
