Millions of grandparents, increasingly relied upon for money and childcare, are giving up parts of their lives for the sake of their grandchildren.
One in seven grandparents (17%) are giving up holidays and roughly one in 10 aren’t socialising with friends or have remortgaged their homes.
And this is all for one reason, research company Mortar Research found, ensuring their grandchildren have some money to hand.
Researchers, who surveyed 2,100 adults last month, also found that 40% of people now rely on their grandparents for money.
And childcare, too. Grandparents clock up an average of 24.6 hours of childcare per month.
