Kate Winslet has opened up on how testosterone replacement treatment has transformed her sex drive.
The Titanic star, 48, has shared how her libido got a boost after undergoing testosterone replacement therapy, which often includes low doses of the hormone estrogen according to Mayo Clinic.
Appearing on the How To Fail With Elizabeth Day podcast, Kate shared advice on how a listener could rekindle their sex drive with their long-term boyfriend.
The Hollywood icon drew from her own health journey to help, saying: ‘Sometimes women have a real dip in libido because there might be stuff going on with their thyroid.’
‘There could also be stuff going on with your level of testosterone, the Oscar-winning star continued.
‘A lot of people don’t know this, but women have testosterone in their body, when it runs out – like eggs – it’s gone. And once it’s gone you have to replace it, and that is something that can be done and you’ll feel sexy again … I know.’
The Mares of Easttown star urged the listened to have their thyroid and testosterone levels checked, as these can have a ‘direct impact on how you’re feeling.’
‘It’s not your fault, our bodies are weird and they behave in strange ways, especially as we get older,’ she continued.
‘So there could be a dip in those hormonal levels for you that is contributing much more than you think to how you’re feeling about having sex with your boyfriend, so I would definitely go ahead and do that.’
It comes after the actor has gotten frank about her body as her latest film Lee, telling the story of war photographer Lee Miller, hits cinemas.
She spoke about the film’s nude scenes, telling Metro.co.uk: ‘It was really different actually, largely because we automatically knew that whenever we do show Lee naked or partially clothed, it’s always on her terms.
‘Being a woman, obviously, I’m very conscious of how women are shown on camera.’
She also spoke to Harpers Bazaar about a moment on set in which she championed showing off her belly rolls, which was met with praise by fans.
‘There’s a bit where Lee’s sitting on a bench in a bikini… And one of the crew came up between takes and said: “You might want to sit up straighter”,’ she recalled.
To which Kate replied: ‘”So you can’t see my belly rolls? Not on your life!””It was deliberate, you know?’
When asked whether she minds looking less-than-perfect on screen, she added: ‘The opposite. I take pride in it because it is my life on my face, and that matters. It wouldn’t occur to me to cover that up.’
