Tonight’s episode of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! on ITV was filled with excitement, following a day of deceptive calm for the campmates.
Earlier in the show, Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse was overjoyed to discover she had won immunity from the public vote after her successful performance in the Battle Blocks challenge.
While Oti had assured her participation in the renowned Celebrity Cyclone challenge, the rest of the contestants remained at risk of being voted out.
Presenters Ant and Dec announced live on air which celebrities would be the fifth and sixth stars to exit the 2024 series in a dramatic double elimination.
Ultimately, it was Barry McGuigan and Maura Higgins who were shown the door, with the other celebs narrowly escaping eviction.
Upon learning he had been voted off, Barry explained it was “hard to know with the general public how well you’re doing”. He also added he was “gutted” to miss out on the Celebrity Cyclone. However, he added that he had still had “an incredible time”.
Following the unexpected double elimination, viewers of I’m A Celeb took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to voice their opinions on the results.
One disgruntled viewer vented: “For gods sake out of all people you just have to kick out the irish campmates? Thats a bit of a fix tbh because I wanted Maura to be in the final four but im so happy Danny is safe.” (sic)
Another fan concurred: “fix fix fix.” (sic)
A third viewer expressed their disappointment, complaining: “Robbed of watching Maura doing the Cyclone. The British public can’t be trusted to vote for anything.”
“MAURA NOOOOOOOOOO,” another wrote, as one more penned with a tearful emoji: “I’m so upset Maura has gone.” (sic)
Barry fans were also up in arms, as one wrote: “Danny looks heartbroken Barry’s gone why public whyyyy.” (sic)
Meanwhile, another viewer noted that both Irish contestants had been voted out, writing with a tearful emoji: “Both the Irish are gone in one night”
“Fuming that we can’t vote from Ireland,” another tweeted.
However, one more fan reasoned: “It’s not a fix if you favourite doesn’t win.”
Earlier in the episode, Oti triumphed over Danny Jones, Coleen Rooney and Maura Higgins to secure her spot in the much-loved Celebrity Cyclone challenge.
With high stakes, Ant and Dec outlined what the contestants would face in their intense Battle Blocks challenge.
Celebrities were divided into four distinct gameplay zones, each containing ten battle blocks. The challenge was to locate and extract all ten blocks, arranging them into a flawless rectangle on a grid before them.
The first contestant to successfully assemble their battle blocks and dash to hit the golden buzzer would triumph with the coveted Ticket to Cyclone.
Ant quipped: “Even though you press the golden buzzer that doesn’t mean you’re through to the live shows of Britain’s Got Talent, that’s a different show, don’t get confused.”
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tomorrow at 9pm on ITV and ITVX.
