Emmerdale fans have been left frustrated by Stephanie Miligan, with many taking to social media to express their annoyance at her abrasive behavior.
Since arriving in the village last November, Steph (played by Georgia Jay) has been stirring up drama with her family, frequently clashing with her mother Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) and father Caleb Miligan (William Ash).
Despite having a complicated backstory, fans feel that her character is lacking in depth and have called on Emmerdale writers to give her more purpose.
Taking to social media, one viewer fumed: “Is it me or every scene now consists of her walking into a room, throwing an insult and walking out, only to return to the next scene where she does the same thing just in a different location? It’s grating! Had to share before I lose my mind.”
Another frustrated fan added: “Gawd she is exhausting. I vote we send her back to the boarding school.”
Steph initially arrived in the village to claim her inheritance from her late grandmother, Helen.
However, after a conversation with Caleb, she decided to stay and attempt to reconnect with her estranged parents. Since then, she has stuck around without having much involvement in the plot of the soap, which has left viewers questioning the need for her presence.
One fan noted: “It makes me wonder why she continues to stay there. It’s not as though she grew up here or has lifelong friends. It seems she wants to stay to snark at her parents and punish them for grandad leaving.”
Some believe that Steph’s character has been kept around solely for the sake of a major plot twist.
One person theorised: “I do agree that Steph doesn’t seem to have much of a purpose at this point, but I guess she’s become plot armour, as she’s the only one who can prove that Anthony assaulted Ruby when she was a teenager.
“It’s only a matter of time before the truth comes to light, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Steph eventually leaves the show and cuts ties with her family for good. She strikes me as the type who would still blame Ruby or make her feel guilty for everything that’s happened.”
Despite this potential storyline, fans are still unimpressed with Steph’s storyline, with one bluntly stating: “She’s an annoying character. They need to give her more purpose than this.”
Another echoed the sentiment, saying: “Annoying character, wish she’d have more purpose than insulting Ruby and looking for grandad. They’ve paired her with Ross but even then her character is so dull.”
