A night out that ends with a slap to the face might be a sign to call it quits for most, but not in Japan, where one popular bar is turning it into its main attraction.

At Muscle Girls Bar, in Tokyo’s entertainment district, Ibebukuro, customers pay to be slapped, carried and served drinks by muscular women.

The fitness-themed bar employs an impressive lineup of staff including all-female Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners, fitness influencers, and even professional wrestlers.

Customers can exchange Japanese Yen for ‘muscle coins’, which can be used to pay for these services, which involve being slapped, kicked or ‘princess carried’. The price for these services can be as much as 30,000 yen ($200).

The bar itself is a neon-lit ‘paradise’, according to visitors who trek from all over the globe to see it. It’s equipped with poles, push-up bars, and photos of the bar’s staff in action.

The menu includes two all-you-can-drink packages: a 30-minute session (which can be extended to an hour) or an 80-minute option.

TikTok user Frankie, @franklinthewoman, recently filmed her experience visiting the bar. She told her 500,000 followers: ‘You usually need to make a reservation, so I was lucky to secure a time slot as a walk-in.’

Frankie reveals that you can ‘work out’ to gain muscle coins as she films herself on a weightlifting machine. She says you can put the coins ‘towards things like getting slapped, lifted up or princess carried’.

She adds: ‘Some of these options, like the princess carry, are only available for female guests.’

The bar’s drink preparation is equally unique, with the muscle girls perched atop the counter to hand-squeeze fresh fruit into cocktails.

Frankie said: ‘We went for the grapefruit drink, which they can make with or without alcohol. The girls smash the grapefruit and might even shove it in your face.

‘They also put on a show at designated times,’ she added. Frankie spent 9,600 Yen, around £60 for two people in the evening. She said: ‘I think it was worth it and I’d do it again.’

The bar’s founder, Hari, opened Muscle Girls Bar in 2020 after her gym closed during the Covid-19 pandemic. A former fitness influencer on YouTube, Hari wanted to combine her passion for fitness with entertainment.

According to the bar’s website, guests are encouraged to interact with the staff in several ways.

It says: ‘The Muscle Girls Loved to be praised! Feel free to compare them to huge things like Mt Fuji and refrigerators.’

The girls also apparently like having their muscles judged. The website reads: ‘When you give the muscle girls tips, place them by their best muscles.’
