A MUM-OF-FOUR living in a hostel has hit back at people who ask how she can afford to get her nails and lashes done while staying in temporary accommodation.
Georgia Marie, 26, from the UK took to social media to explain how she lives in one-room apartment with her four children while sharing a bathroom with another family.
The single-mum shared a clip of herself cleaning the giant room which has three beds squeezed in for the family-of-five to sleep on.
We have one room to ourselves which we’re very grateful for,” she said.
“But as you can see, it can get a bit chaotic.”
In the clip she showed just how messy and cluttered it can get – which is only natural when there are five people living in one room.
Georgia revealed she had thought about getting a storage unit but couldn’t justify the £200 a month fee it would cost.
She explained as this was temporary accommodation, she would much rather live in clutter for a few more months before she gets a better property than waste the money.
Despite the clutter, the mum did a great job of tidying up as she explained how she makes the accommodation work for her family.
In one clip, the mum revealed how she ended up living in the hostel – explaining that she was first moved into a two-bed flat but it was too far away from her children’s’ school.
After three weeks she was then moved to a three-bed flat that was closer to her borough, but was only on a strict three-month contract.
While there Georgia looked for private rental properties but wasn’t being accepted for any of the houses, the council then stepped in to try and find anew temporary accommodation – which was two and a half hours away from her borough and kids’ school.
The mum told the council she would rather stay in a hotel or hostel in her borough rather than move away from her support network – and that’s what she did.
“I then got offered the hostel, which is one room, a family room, with your own kitchen and a shared bathroom,” she explained.
“I know it’s not ideal, but it’s like living in a penthouse for me.
“People say ‘how do you do it?’ Of course I have my down days, it’s not all butterflies and rainbows.
“However, I’m grateful.”
But Georgia’s transparency has led many to ask questions about why she is living in a hostel when she has her nails and lashes down.
“Just curious, how do you afford your lashes and nails done all the time but live like this?” asked a viewer.
The mum-of-four shared the comment on TikTok and made a video response explain that she wasn’t poor just because she lives in a hostel.
She explained: “The one thing that really annoys me is that people assume because you live in a hostel you’re like, poor, you have no money.”
“Don’t get me wrong, not every month have I got spare money, some months I’m struggling.”
But the mum revealed that she always does her lashes herself, except for this month where she won a competition to get them done professionally for free.
As for her nails, Georgia revealed that yes she does spend £25 on her nails a month as a treat for herself, and who can blame her? Being a songle-mum isn’t an easy job.
She added: “I don’t spend money on cigarettes, I don’t spend money on alcohol, I don’t go partying, I don’t go on dates, I don’t do those kinds of things.”
“As long as my kids are fed, they’ve got clothes on, shoes that fit, coats on and hats, they’ve got what they need.”
Georgia added: “Why do people assume if you live in a hostel, you don’t have money? I’m so confused.”
She added that although she doesn’t work at the money as she has a one-year-old can’t afford the childcare, there were plenty of people living in the same hostel who work full-time jobs.
“That shows me that there’s an issue, it’s not just me,” Georgia said.
The clip quickly went viral on her TikTok account @fourwithgeorgiamarie and many people agreed that the shortage of affordable housing in the UK was the problem.
Plenty of people took to the comments of her post praising the mum for the excellent job she was doing during her current situation.
One person wrote: “We’re just trapped in a rubbish housing situation, doesn’t mean we are ‘poor’.”
Another commented: “I’m in temp accommodation with 4 kids . My lashes being done is my bit of happiness.”
“Omg she’s entitled to have a pamper, she’s doing a great job in her situation,” penned a third.
Someone else added: “It’s lack of housing it’s a crisis what bubble are people living in?”
