A NEW mum claims her in-laws hate her after she banned them from their grandchild’s birth.
Brenda Ann shared a list of requests before giving birth to her baby, and it’s caused total outrage with her partner’s family.
Brenda says her in-laws had no respect for her wishes, and it’s totally divided the internet.
Posting a slideshow on her social media, she wrote: “Why my in-laws don’t like me.”
The mum took a photo of the hospital baby cot and said: “I said we would like a few days of bonding/healing/recovery before having any visitors.
“Please wait until we’re home from the hospital.”
It seemed like a reasonable request, but Brenda’s in-laws totally disagreed.
Repeating their response, she wrote: “That’s not the way our family does things. It’s my grandbaby.
“But this is my baby having a baby.
“I can’t understand why you wouldn’t want us there.
“When I had my babies I wanted all my relatives there.”
As she shared her in-laws’ words, Brenda displayed sweet snaps of her baby’s birth, including her little one wrapped up in her arms and laying calmly in its little cot.
But the in-laws’ retort didn’t stop there, as Brenda continued their rant: “[They said] I’ve never heard of someone not wanting visitors.
“I don’t have to see you, they can just bring the baby out to the waiting room.
“I have a right to be there.”
Brenda claims she tries to respond calmly to her in-laws.
“My reply is always, that’s awesome if that’s what you wanted for your births!
“I totally respect that, but this is what I want.
“This is what makes me the most comfortable. Please respect my boundaries for my birth.
“They don’t.”
A million people have viewed Brenda’s video on TikTok, and they’ve all aired their views in the comments.
One stunned user replied: “Seems harsh and cranky honestly. Hoping my future daughter-in-laws are kind.”
A second commented: “In five years…’why does no one come see my kid?’”
And a third wrote: “Everyone wants to meet the baby. It’s expected. I don’t think it is fair to deny them that. Personal opinion of course.”
Brenda has offered her support to other new mums struggling with their in-law’s demands, and claims it’s totally fine to stand up for yourself in your special moment.
“This is your reminder that it’s okay to stand up for yourself,” she says.
“Your birth, your baby, your peace.
“It’s okay to do what makes you the most comfortable even if others don’t get it.
“Even if they hate you for it.
“There’s times in life to compromise and birthing a baby isn’t one of them.
“You need to be happy and comfortable with what’s happening throughout your labour and recovery.”
