The first time mum was so impressed with the hack she took to TikTok to share it and her video has since gone viral.

Gaby, who goes by the name of @gabriellealbon on TikTok, shared a video to thank “whoever it was” who found out the cheap trick to cure her baby’s teething pain.

Testing it out herself, she revealed that spring onions have been her go to for her baby.

Gaby captioned her video: “Cannot recommend spring onions for teething pain enough.”

Talking to camera, she said: “Can I just thank whoever it was that figured out spring onions help with teething pain, because it has been an actual gamechanger.

“Honestly, it was like magic.

“I don’t understand what it was or the science behind it, but it works.”

In both Gaby’s and Ferne’s videos, their baby’s appear to hold onto the spring onion, which costs as little as 15p per an onion, and use it as a teething tool.

Gaby’s video went viral, with over 26,700 people liking it.

Many rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts.

Trying to brush my toddler’s teeth was like wrestling a Tasmanian Devil until I found a super easy mum hack, I’ve wasted so much time

One grateful parent wrote: “Thanks for the tip, my wife and I will be trying this out later.”

Gaby replied: “Honestly lifesaving!! You’ll have to let me know how you get on!”

Another asked: “What do I do? Just let them chew it?”

To which Gaby replied with a “yes.”

A third parent suggested: “Celery does this too! I used it on all my babies. Frozen watermelon when they’re a bit older.”

And Gaby answered with: “I’ve heard of celery since posting this but frozen watermelon is a new one!”

The trend has even been tried by reality star Ferne McCann, who also took to TikTok to show her baby Fenty, who she welcomed with her fiancé Lorri Haines last July.

However, she revealed how her baby wasn’t so keen on it.

Sharing her video, Ferne wrote: “Anyone else see the viral video of that baby munching on a spring onion to help with teething…My baby wasn’t keen one bit!

“Don’t blame her.”

What is the science behind it

Spring onions, also known as green onions or scallions, are sometimes used as a natural remedy for teething discomfort in babies. Here are a few reasons why spring onions might be considered helpful:

Texture: The firm yet somewhat flexible texture of spring onions can provide a soothing effect on sore gums when chewed or gnawed on by a teething baby.

Cooling Effect: Spring onions are often stored in the refrigerator, and their cool temperature can help numb the gums and reduce discomfort.

Natural: Unlike some commercial teething products that may contain chemicals or artificial ingredients, spring onions are a natural option.

Antibacterial Properties: Spring onions have mild antibacterial properties, which can help maintain oral hygiene.

However, it’s important to exercise caution:

Choking Hazard: Ensure that the spring onion is large enough so that there is no risk of the baby swallowing and choking on it.

Allergic Reactions: Monitor for any allergic reactions, as some babies may be sensitive to certain foods.

Supervision: Always supervise your baby while they are using any teething aid, including spring onions.

It’s always a good idea to consult with a pediatrician before introducing any new teething remedies to ensure they are safe and appropriate for your baby.
