A COURAGEOUS mum has revealed the story of how she found out she was pregnant at 16.
Megan Andrews fell pregnant at 16, but only found out about her pregnancy when she was 29 weeks pregnant.
Taking to social media, she revealed what happened, and why despite initially being terrified of giving birth, it was the best thing to happen to her.
In the clip, the now 27-year-old said: “I had a cryptic pregnancy at the age of 16, and I kept her a secret until she was one month old.
“Which means, yes, I did give birth to my cryptic pregnancy.”
Megan decided to take a pregnancy test while she was studying performing arts at college and it came back positive.
At first, Megan wasn’t too panicked, at 16 she knew she wasn’t ready to have a child as she didn’t have a job, hadn’t finished education and was going back and fourth between her parents’ houses – so headed to the doctors office.
However, after her mum came with her to an ultrasound they found out she was 29 weeks pregnant and would give birth in a few months.
Throughout the pregnancy, Megan revealed she had irregular periods and no symptoms of pregnancy so was shocked to find out she was in her third trimester.
Breaking down into tears, Megan revealed she felt hopeless at the ultrasound – but her mum, who was incredibly supportive helped her through the rest of the pregnancy.
Megan decided to keep her pregnancy a secret while she finished the school year and gave birth to a gorgeous little girl on August 29, a day before her own birthday.
“I didn’t even have time to come to terms with the fact that I was pregnant, let alone I then just gone through an entire birth,” she explained.
What is a cryptic pregnancy?
In cryptic pregnancy, a person does not realise they are pregnant until a late trimester or even until they are in labour.
Being unaware of pregnancy may mean a person does not receive adequate care or make healthful lifestyle adjustments.
Both of these factors can lead to complications in fetal development, reports Medical News Today.
When Megan had started processing the fact she was now a mum, she soon began to love the experience.
“After a couple of weeks, I did fall in love,” she added.
“I absolutely loved everything, absolutely everything about her, about how I felt, about how I felt towards her.”
A month after giving birth, Megan decided it was time to reveal to the world that she was now a mum.
“And then here’s the juicy part,” Megan revealed.
When she was one month old, I posted a picture of me holding her in the hospital bed with the caption ‘I’m a mum. Deal with it.’
“And that was it.”
After telling her friends and family, Megan was a single mum for six years before meeting her current partner Sam and having another little girl.
Despite her concerns about becoming a teen mum, Megan now wishes she could go back in time to bask in her first pregnancy again.
She said: “We’re just gorgeous family. I just couldn’t be happier.
“And I really wish that I could just go back and punch myself in the absolute effing face and say, everything is gonna be fine.”
The clip posted to her TikTok account @tattfamily quickly went viral with over one millionviews and 68k likes.
Plenty of people took to the comments section to praise the mum.
One person wrote: “You’re so brave for sharing.”
Another commented: “Wow, your tears got me. Reliving those moments was so real for you, I’m so glad it’s a happy ending!”
“I’m glad your mum was supportive,” penned a third.
