Hollywood actor Sydney Sweeney has levelled candid criticism at Hollywood’s brand of female empowerment, claiming it is ‘all fake’.

The 27-year-old actor has proven herself a force to be reckoned with in the industry after making a name for herself in HBO’s Euphoria.

Since then she has starred in hit shows such as The White Lotus and broken into film across genres from superhero movie Madame Web to blockbuster romance Anyone But You to horror flick Immaculate.

But her journey has not been smooth sailing and earlier this year she was forced to defend herself after a high-profile producer, Carol Baum, said she ‘isn’t pretty’ and ‘can’t act’.

She shared her disappointment at the Dead Ringers producer’s comments with Metro, adding: ‘If that’s what she’s learned in her decades in the industry and feels is appropriate to teach to her students, that’s shameful.’

Now, in a new interview, the screenstar has cast her net wider and is coming after all of Hollywood for its disingenuous brand of feminism.

Earlier this year she hit back at ‘disparaging’ comments made by a a producer (Picture: HBO)

After reiterating that it is ‘disheartening to see women tear other women down’, she added: ‘This entire industry, all people say is “Women empowering other women.”

‘None of it’s happening. All of it is fake and a front for all the other s**t that they say behind everyone’s back.’

Acknowledging that there are ‘different opinions’ around why this may be the case, she shared that ‘our entire lives we’ve been raised to believe only one woman can be at the top.’

She continued to Vantiy Fair: ‘There’s one woman who can get the man. There’s one woman who can be, I don’t know, anything.

‘So then all the others feel like they have to fight each other or take that one woman down instead of being like, Let’s all lift each other up. I’m still trying to figure it out. I’m just trying my best over here. Why am I getting attacked?’

Earlier this year Syndey was also the centre of strange internet discourse after being adopted as a symbol for the far right due to her large chest. According to some online trolls her boobs were a sign of ‘anti-wokeness’.

The Emmy-nominated star is set to reprise her role in Euphoria in January after years of delays and back and forth over whether a third season was actually going ahead.

Uncertainty around production meant Syndey initially ‘passed on’ projects in case filming started up again.

But after she started producing (she founded Fifty-Fifty Films in 2020) she felt more empowered to put some of her ‘own projects’ on the slate such as Anyone But You.

Her most recent festival release is the survival thriller Eden, starring Jude Law and Vanessa Kirby and features a nude scene with The Holiday actor which she is ‘very supportive’ of.

‘For Jude’s character, it was such a powerful move for him to do, so I wanted to cheer for that. Whether it’s men or women, if it’s for the character it’s for the character, and it tells a story,’ she praised.
