sMothered gets seriously emotional this week as a 25-year-old breaks down in tears over fears for her mum’s health.

Sarah and her mum Laurie, 59, have an intense and unbreakable bond – calling themselves best friends as they do everything together (including, in some cases, dating).

The Florida pair even share the same bed for their regular ‘snuggle parties’ as they can’t bear to be apart.

‘When I snuggle with Sarah it brings us to an inner connection, words aren’t even necessary. It’s just an unbelievable love bond,’ Laurie says about their sleeping habits, as Sarah adds she takes photos of her mum asleep.

Sarah, who suffers from anxiety, later opens up about her nervousness about her mum, and how watching her sleep makes her feel comforted.

‘I’m a very anxious person, but when I smell mum all of my anxieties or worries go away,’ she tells the cameras. ‘I like to watch my mum sleep, it makes me feel safe.’

However, the reason behind it is actually a little heartbreaking, and things take a turn when Sarah opens up about why she’s so nervous about her mum – particularly her health and wellbeing.

‘The reason I monitor my mum is because when I was like five or six, I woke up and I was screaming for her, and she said, “I’ll be right there”. And then… she never showed up,’ she explained, bursting into tears as she begins to relive the traumatic event.

‘I remember walking down that hallway, and I found her there laying on the stairs. At the time the neighbours that were behind us, one was a nurse, so she came over.’

At that point, Sarah becomes inconsolable, with her mother rocking her as she tried to calm her down.

‘We’ve had some rough times,’ Laurie says. ‘I have to hold it together for her.’

Laurie has been diagnosed with a number of ailments including chronic kidney disease and type one diabetes – leaving Sarah even more nervous and desperate to keep her mum healthy.

However, as they’ve got older, their bonds are being tested in other ways- especially now that Sarah has a long-term boyfriend in Miguel… who Laurie wants to propose.

Inviting herself to their romantic evening together, will she manage to convince Miguel to get down on one knee? Or scare him away?

sMothered continues Tuesdays at 9pm on TLC.
